My little cousin posted the same image he did including the chair part. I logged off Facebook for a while because of it.

Wow. Never knew him, and he died before I even owned my XJ, but I just read this whole thread, and most of his build thread... Going to sleep through class tomorrow, most likely, but I think maybe this was more important anyway...

Sounds stupid, and no one here cares, I'm sure, but earlier I gave someone sound advice, but I was a bit of an *** because I wasn't sure about his tone... Now I feel bad for it, it seems like Brian wouldn't have done that.
Time to go apologize; I want to be a better person, even if it won't matter to that guy.

It's been several years since I was semi-active on here, but I was thinking about Brian the other day. Words can't express him. He was such a natural leader and great guy all around during our Philmont Trek back in the summer of 2008.

There is one experience in my mind that sums up Brian and his personality. Back in the summer of 2009 I wanted to take my XJ to the queen creek (ET motorpark) mud bogs. I had asked Brian if he wanted to come but he worked really late that night. On my way to there my Cherokee overheated and blew the faulty autozone heater control valve and created a geyser of steam on the side of the highway.

I casually texted Brian showing him my carnage and he left work early (around 10:30-11:00 pm when he didn't get off until later) to come help me on the side of the highway near Ironwood road in Apache Junction. I was shocked that he would drop everything to come help me.

The Cherokee was unfixiable at the moment but that did not stop the fun. We continued on to the mud bog. Brian (in work slacks, dress shoes, and dress shirt) then entered his XJ in the mud bog competition. After watching several beaters tackle the mud pit Brian decided it was his turn in the pit. He lined up to race 3 girls in a 70s ford pickup. At the starting line Brian looked over his shoulder at the girls and I could tell the 4.3 liters of bored out AMC power was going to make a kill tonight.

The Christmas Tree turned green and he took off, rowing the gears. We must have been going 30mph+ (My friend and I always thought his Cherokee was faster that out other friend's mustang gt) by the time he hit the pit. Brian's Cherokee was launched skyward then seemed to float over the mud until he hit a bump in the pit. His Xj soared sideways, and my "Oh ****" sensor went off. We went past 45 degrees, a rollover seemed immanent. Brian let off the throttle and unfortunately sank in the mud in the pit. We didn't roll but now we were stuck.

Yes the girls won that day but as Brian crawled out of the door and on to the hood of his XJ (in dress clothes still) the crowd cheered for the true winner of the race. Several People recorded video of the incident and I'm sure its out there somewhere

It was a bad day for Cherokees as Brian's Cherokee suffered minor damage in the form of broken sway bar disconnects (hitting a mud pit at 30mph+ will do it) and my Cherokee turning into old faithful, but I will never forget that night. We both limped back home late that night, Brian was willing to help despite having to work early in the morning.

Overall I think it sums up Brian and his personality. Willing to help at the drop of a hat even if it inconvenienced him, but was still up for having a good time too despite the circumstances. RIP Brian Perrine, Hope you are wheeling the great trail in the sky. You were a the best leader in Philmont, always willing to lend a hand, and a great person in general. Hope to see you again sometime - Andrew.

On a side note does anyone know what happened to Brian's Cherokee AKA Project Black Sky?

That's an awesome story man. Thanks for sharing that. As far as Brian's jeep, last I heard, Brian's Dad still has it and is still doing the things on it that Brian wanted done. - but that's probably been about a year now.

I never knew Brian or communicated with him on here. I just clicked on his build thread, wondering why it was a sticky. After reading alot of that and most of this I can honestly say it brought a tear to my eye. So great to see the cherokeeforum community coming together about this.

Rest In Peace Brian.
