Idaho-Nevada border (Robinson Hole)

I finally got a few minutes to post some pics and info about one of my favorite trails. The pics are from mid October 2011. The Jarbidge Mountains are in the background.

I usually drive this as a loop starting at Murphy Hot Spring just north of the Idaho/Nevada border. Heading toward Rogerson, and just out of the canyon, there's a two-track that's marked as part of the Idaho Centennial Trail. You follow that heading south. Staying to the right at road splits, and crossing the Nevada border, will eventually get you to the turnoff into Robinson Hole. The sign at the top warns that the trail is washed out and should be only traversed by ATVs...... Well, Jeeps won't have a problem of course!

Why it's worth doing: awesome scenery, hot springs, switchbacks, decent 4-wheeling challenges, isolated (have the place to yourself)

awesome! Those are great photos. Looks like a great place to get away from everything with the jeep.

Yeah, I've been in there several times over the years and have only seen one rig. So I feel a little apprehensive about telling people about the place....

:shifty:

I loved Idaho when I drove through it! Wanting to go back whenever I can.

hot springs at Robinson Hole

I didn't mention this with the pictures, but the tub next to the river has a pipe that pours water from a natural hot spring into it. The tub is in the bottom of Robinson Hole...

Murphy Hot Spring is a little community that has an actual swimming pool that was used commercially for several years.

The pool's currently showing major signs of age and neglect, but still has some of the best thermal water in the country! just over 100 degrees and no sulphur odor. The caretakers have you sign a waiver, and then let you in free.

I just happened on this site. I was searching Robinson Hole and when I saw this about your trip, well it brought back some wonderful fly fishing and Gold panning memoirs. I first when sown the that trail in a super modified Jeep 1st year Jeep Scrambler and this was in 1984 (got the rig in 1983). At that time, that road was so bad, it my new full hard top and roof rack tore off and I had to rope it down. My Brother and I stayed two weeks by your photo, we went down that narrow gorge fishing and releasing. Now that was a gorge and so narrow you were most always in the water. To see a bath tube was put there was (old timer) sort of a bummer as the water had a natural hold in that very area. Going down the other way, the water opened up and that is where I found a geo rock bath and ancient stones that had been scribed on. I left them be, but I am sure when the many of hundred (maybe Burning Man deal)...easy to pick up. I remember how angry many of the folks were about that one. The next year, I had punched steel holes in the cab and rack so I could handle real tough (roads?) terrain. Anyway, I was only able to see three pictures and was glad to see a lady doing this trip. I am a die hard adventurer getting along in years and though I am handicapped, I still go where I won't see any other campers and I back then I rarely took anyone along with me because most and more so today many do not have the skills it takes to handle the back country. I am sad that so many places I used to go is no wilderness. When I left my camp, no one would have know I was there. I am right proud to see a hardy woman take on the tough trails. Happy Trails. Gary

PS. I am getting ready to do a month back country trip by my lonesome in the Arizona Strip. Central Nevada, Ruby Mountains and Robinson and the St. Joe River and back...maybe.

Yeah, that area is one of my favorites. I've been in the Hole a half dozen times and only saw one other outfit the whole time.
