has anyone been to fordyce or rubicon recently??

I'm lookin into going to fordyce or rubicon trail next month. Which ones harder? Fordyce looks tougher to me... but I was wondering if anyones been there and could tell me?? Also what are the essentials for doing either of these trails... besides a lot of gas lol

I've been passenger through both. Rubicon you can do (not easily) with a stock jeep. Fordyce is insane. But It depends on which your going to do DEFINATELY a winch and hopefully 35 inch tires lots of supplies and basically an extra jeep worth of parts

Well I'm at 5.5 inch lift on brandnew 33s locked rear open front and and exo cage lol. So I guess ill wait till I get my front locker and gears. I really don't wanna spend the money on a winch... and yea my buddys are going to fordyce soon I wanted to go but after watchin some videos and stuff I'm gonna hold off on it for a while. Its my dd so I'm not lookin to break the hell out of it lol.

Ya I've recently bought a 98 xj with a 6.5 inch lift and currently have 33s but the person before my had 35s with stock gearing and took it through the rubicon 4 times

what are you waiting for get out on that rubicon trail man! a locker and 33's is perfect with armor
just have tow points, spare parts, and a buddy with a winch.
from what I've heard fordyce is much more of a challenge. and you have to research when the water crossings are passable

cagedxj707 07-16-2012 10:06 PM

Huh alright!! Its settled then, fordyce next summer rubicon sometime soon!! Next summer I sould have a d44 (currently d35) and have my 4:56s with lockers. I think I'm gonna order new shocks and bigger sprolings to get another 2 inches of lift. Then fordyce it is...

you're already sitting too tall IMO. if anything lower it an inch and drag the damn thing through the con because you've got a cage. fine tune what you've already got there are not benefits of lifting taller

Atmos 07-16-2012 10:56 PM

ohhh yikes and I did not realize that it was a D35 when you were talking about your rear axle.
you can still do it. just take it easy out there

cagedxj707 07-17-2012 01:36 AM

Well I'm going a little taller because after I gear and everything I'm gonna run 35s and I can't cut my front fenders anymore cuz the front of the cage acts as fender flares almost. Plus I just want it a little. Bit higher.

then bumpstop it with long arms and 45* shackle angle and focus on down travel instead.
going taller is just purely for looks and is absolutely pointless
also you'll end up with horrible steering angles, need track bar upgrades, and probably lessen your flex unless you get longer shocks

lift it higher and lose performance. plain and simple. unless you throw a bunch of money at it to correct every problem that comes with lifting too high

cagedxj707 07-17-2012 07:21 PM

Ill b sitting at 6.5 tops. And yes ill definatley b ordering new shock hopefully budget permitting euther billsteins or foxs with the resivours. And I've already got bumpstops. I could rework the shackle angle tho ill probablly do that soon.

Atmos 07-17-2012 10:06 PM

uh huh. well I guess you gotta do what you wanna do
post some pics of that cage I love a good cage

cagedxj707 07-18-2012 01:11 AM

Dude I can't figure out how to on mobile and my computers broken and I don't have internet. But if u go to my profile I found a way to post some pics on there.

Atmos 07-18-2012 01:43 AM

so it's a... half cage?

cagedxj707 07-18-2012 01:55 AM

I only built it to be sufficent for me and a passanger. Cuz I had planned to cut the back off but now I'm in an area that rains a lot so I'm not gonna go that route. Been thinking of finishing it but I don't really see the point lol. The cage as is, is fine now cuz I don't carry a truck load when I wheel.
