Fun little trip
Spotted a trail on my way home from work Thursday (I took a detour ) so I thought I'd call my best buddy today and we'd go check it out. His wife came along and took some pics, but she was in the seat for most of the good stuff. Pretty fun little trail, some good rocky hill climbs and a little creek to play in, but it ended up being a dead end, so we probably won't go back. Oh well, still fun.
Since the trail led to nowhere, we decided to tackle the powerline on the other side of town since we had a few hours of daylight left.
We had perfect weather, a little mud and a lot of rocks.
On the bypass to the powerline, the more crawling I did the more I heard a clunking sound coming from the front end. By the time we got halfway up the powerline, it was doing it on damn near every bump. I was starting to worry about universal-joints, axle shafts, and everything else under the sun. We made it back to my house tried to pinpoint the noise. Checked the front driveshaft - good. Checked the u-joints - good. Checked the trackbar - good. The only thing left was tranny or motor mounts, so we popped the hood and I watched while my buddy jumped the throttle, and sure enough - the driver's side motor mount bushing had been beaten down to nothing (4-banger... too much torque ). Gonna order new mounts for both sides and switch 'em out next week.

Yes, I neither condone nor partake in illegal wheeling. Even have the Tread Lightly reading material in my glove box, should I ever need to "throw the book" at someone, so to speak.

Do they make the urethane motor mounts for the 4 banger? They will out last you. Still have them in my year (90) and I am sure that the year you have it is available for just don't know about the 4 banger part.

From what I can tell, the PS mounts are the same, but the DS mount on the 2.5 is different. It appears you can't just buy the bushing, you have to buy the complete hanger that mounts to the arm/unibody with the bushing pressed inside.

Well, I did find these:

Now I just have to decide if I want to pay twice as much for those, or just buy OEM ones and call it a day. Right now I think I'd rather go the cheap route, and if they fail again in a year or two, then I'll upgrade the whole mounting system, arms and all, with this:

I gotta keep it on the cheap for now.
