Not trying to hijack the thread. But for the fella above wondering how they mount. As well as tubes. The rear tube uses leaf spring perch. Then there's what appears to be self tappers up front. Flimsy mounting it seems. (Step goes down a little with my 140lb self). They are on the jeep I picked up to part.

awesome, thanks for your insight. i'd been looking at it earlier and it had seemed like those were the locations to go for since there's really nowhere else they would mount easily

Not sure. Haven't really looked at them too much.

OKAY! New information i just received after looking at my undercarriage and talking with the guy i had bought my set from. (currently getting the mudflaps on and looking great, also the guy was a great guy to deal with, very nice). Turns out he didn't send a set of 4 mounts, seem to all be about the same in construction and appearance, because he was uncertain if they came on all jeep models or not. I'll post a pic with this posting. For the molded running boards, they bolt up to the rocker panel and the uni-body frame. They sit further out than JeepStephie's info of using the leaf spring mounting. I had checked the alignment myself and the bolt pattern was indeed similar but was too far recessed into the body to function correctly.

For anyone still curious or considering to follow this thread. I came across some more interesting information. There were two different running boards within the later-style xj bodies/trim. The ones shown throughout this thread so far are of one type, then I'm assuming in the later years, there was another modified version with a flusher look and different caps and centerpiece. the only remaining similarity seems to be the metal center, all plastic pieces differ, after I move around the photos, i'll be sure to post them for reference. I only found this out as I prepped the set I had got for painting to match the body and ran into some structure issues with some of the plastic beginning to crack under pressure and checked a single board i'd received from a junkyard.

I am guessing you are talking about these. Only picture I could find. Fuzzy but you can see the difference. I am still in the process of installing mine. A guy with a '99 Limited Up Country Version came into the store yesterday. All the bells and whistles pretty much. Was nice enough to let me crawl around and check out his Jeep. Had the boards like mine. The ones that mold into the fender flares. Being old I have a cheesy phone. One of the guys let me use his phone to take pictures of the mounting points for the running boards. He has to email them to me. Will post when I get them. Still a little confused as to what issues you are talking about. I hope there won't be a problem because I already took them apart to get them painted to match the Jeep. Plus I want to POR 15 that metal piece. Instead of paint I am considering Monstalining them. Now I am wondering if I should put one back together and put it on before I do anything else. Speaking of which that guy with the '99 metal bar was rotted like you would not believe. Funny since the rest of the Jeep was in pristine condititon.

well after seeing that.. I suppose I should change it that there are so far 3 different types. I have seen those before (the fuzzy photo) but not in person or for sale.

older(?) style boards, metal brackets and bar under the plastic board are the same as in the later images.

corners connect to the board differently, have a more protruding style and a different cover to the main board piece

main board curves upwards to meet the body more, if the ones i'm cleaning up now are newer, i suppose this style trapped a lot of water?

pads from the ones i'm putting on my jeep, opposite ribbing to the white board

not shown here, metal bar sits between two plastic faces for a snugger fit than the white board, 5 or 6 bolts hold it onto the plastic (become stress areas and in my case have snapped or cracked heavily)

Newer(?) corners. the plastic is molded with a piece to match the center ribbing. two screws hold it down on each end of the metal bar to run flush to the center plastic. less agressive look, more fluid curvature.

metal brackets from the green boards.

If anyone knows what kind of plastic these are made of, it'd be of great help to me as I look for material for some plastic welding. I may not be able to continue without the proper knowledge to repair the cracks and breaks on them.
