I have an engine in a 91 4.0l auto that I'm parting out. PO said it was rebuilt 60k ago and the compression test confirms it...no leaks at all from it. Jeep shows 242k miles on the odometer. I'm up in fort Collins let me know if your interested.

You'd think there would be more replies in Colorado... I can't help much, I'm in Indiana. Even a rebuild kit costs $700 and up, head works expensive, plus add in boiling block, decking head and so on and that eats up $1600 quick so I'd say the engine your buddy got is a half job and not a real good rebuild. And for $600 you wouldn't get much, especially when labor is as much or more than parts these days.

His was a brand new crate engine and was professionally installed he has had 0 probs...

Pretty much have to call BS on this, cause mitchell time calls for 10 hours with no problems and up to 15 hours. @ $50 per that goes to $500 to $750, most charge $65 per which goes to $650 to $975 and that is no extra parts or even the engine yet, No way to get a brand new crate for under $1000, and any good mechanic would replace at least front pump seal while out and usually tune up ign parts if not starter and such, I think you may be fabricating to try and get someone to low ball you a rate.
