XJ D44 local pick up only

Location: Williamsport, Pennsylvania
Price: $300
Condition: Used

Description: This is a D44 axle pulled from a late '80s Jeep Cherokee XJ. It contains 3.55 gears. I pulled the axle shafts out with intentions of putting disc brakes on. I have the orginal drum brake backing plates but no other hardware (it was all usless anyway). The retaining plates that hold the axles in were badly rusted and needed replaced also, so those are gone. Otherwise the axle is complete. Will bolt into any XJ. I don't have the driveshaft to go with it, but one from an XJ with a 8.25 should work. This would make a great starting point for someone who want to build a stronger axle to replace an older 8.25 or D35. It is and has been in storage inside for the past few years.

Shipping: NO- local pick up only

Some additional information regarding shipping... I frequently travel between Williamsport, PA and Buffalo, NY and possibly could arrange to meet up anywhere along the way if that would help the sale.

So....basically all someone would need would be brakes and this axle would be good to go?

Brakes and bearing retaining plates. I've heard that there may be a factory retaining plate that can be purchased from Chrysler. I don't know if you can get the orginal 87-89 XJ D44 retaining plates any longer but I think there is another one that has simular bolt spacing that will do the job. I was going to actually make my own but wanted to buy the disc brake parts first- never got around to it though.

There are lots of opinions on what disc brake conversion to use but I knew I wanted to go that route so I never bothered getting the drum brake parts, but I do think I still have the brake drum backing plates.

I believe you can use TJdana44 retainer plates

I hope that's true, should make it easy to locate. Here's a link I found today:

I can't say anything about the credibility of this article but if you get the retaining plates and find the bolt patteren matches up then I would think the rest of the parts should work. This is just what I was planning to do with the axle but never got around to it.

My XJ D44 is still available, had lots of interest but still no buyer yet. Maybe I'll get some pictures up this week if anyone thinks that'll help.
