Update:
Late afternoon on Wednesday (6/27), meet with MatcoBill (cool guy, hope he joins the XJ family), and his thoughts on the CEL is head gaskets upon doing some preliminary checking. I am going to have that checked with a sniffer bit from a mech. to get a consensus. That is good and bad. If it is the gasket and it is easy enough to repair (esp. myself) than I won't sell it. If it looks like it's gonna be expensive...well I may have to see. My threshold for selling is around $2300 as it sits. Someone willing to pay that...I'll take it, as the truck sits now. Otherwise it is worth it to me to fix, and make money off it this hurricane season (which it will do really well in). I will update with results when they come...but I'm not rushed. My business is my priority.

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport
140,xxx miles
Automatic
4x4 (np 231)
chrysler 8.25 rear
Passed Maryland Inspection this past winter
Red exterior / tan interior
Gaithersburg, MD

Selling the Jeep because it just doesn't fit my needs (I'm going back to Subaru). I also have a Triumph Spitfire project I need to wrap up...and as you see from the pics...no garage.

The Jeep is working, and I drive it regularly. I bought in in late fall for $2700 (on craigslist) and put in a bit of work to get it to pass inspection.

-- replaced block lift with a legit 3" lift from Rough Country.
-- replaced front brake rotors and pads
-- fixed park brake (needs a little tightening again)
-- front end alignment (required with suspension work)
-- brand new (3,000 miles or less on them) 31" x 10.5 r15 all terrain tires from Definity (these are 50,000 mile tread life...as good as it gets in AT tires).
-previous owner just installed a new battery

I've since added a JK (wrangler) bumper to the front for a custom look

Issues:
-- exhaust passed inspection, but may not again, replacement is suggested.
-- it did cut an access hole in the trunk to fix a botched repair by previous owner. Cover is installed. No concern, just disclosure.
-- when making tight turns (like a U-turn) the steering fluid squirts out of a leak someplace. Smokes a tad if it hits the manifold and smells for a second, but I haven't even had to refill the pump yet. No performance issues, just annoying.
-- Check Engine light is on all the time. Code 0301 which is "misfire on cylinder 1". I know it is not simple like a plug (already checked). I suspect either the ignition coil packs or injectors. I no longer think it is the rings...I doubt I could drive it as long as I have and it be as strong as it is with bad rings. While I do a ton of DIY stuff with cars, I am not a mechanic though.

The rear carpet is also missing...I threw it out, was going to bed line the back instead.

Price is suggested, offers welcome. Only trade I would consider is for a Subaru Legacy Outback or GT Wagon
included.

-------------- ADD -----------------

Yakima rack is NOT included. I will likely use that on the next vehicle I get. The factory roof rack is off, but I have it and is included.

Also...I see I must have not included the asking price:

$2900 is what I asked on CL...cause...well it is craigslist. I'm negotiable.

I'll jump on the PC to look at the emails Monday (tomorrow). I've only been on the iPad this weekend (just discovered and love the App)

I am not sure what is under the stickers (looks like diamond plate in the pics) on the back of the rockers. I believe it may have been some, but was addressed by previous owner.

But overall the underside and everything is quite clean. It is really why I was willing to buy it myself. I can't stand rusty bits. I've no problem when taking bolts on and off, even the big ones.

AC Works, but is weakish. On a modest warm day, it'll cut down on the heat, but if you want polar ice, this isn't that strong. Everything works, but might be low on freon. Never checked...I'm a windows down kinda guy.

I did check, and yes, on the drivers side rocker, there is rust through. It appears to have been addressed (rust stop). Oddly the passenger side seems fine...the sticker may have been placed just to match.

I can fix the rust spot, but it'll make the price a tad less negotiable AND really only once I have a firm commitment on a buyer. I personally wouldn't bother with it. I saw it when I bought it...but obviously forgot it was there...and had no anticipation to fix if I kept it. It's an easy fix...and I'd do it myself (meaning it'll be fixed, but may not pretty).

I have video of the interior, exterior, and underside that I did with the iPhone that I'm going to attempt to upload to YT and post.

BTW...if I don't answer questions tomorrow and/or Thursday, I'm just busy getting my newly purchase Triumph Spitfire shipped home and will be doing a bit of work here (but away from the computer) on that.

Hey i'm the one that bought your old Subaru lol, funny I ran across this. Good luck selling the XJ.

The GC is doing well by the way, I put a built motor, bigger turbo and tons of other work to it. I redid pretty much the whole thing since i've had it lol. I'm going to be caging it in a few weeks.

Yeah...not hard to do....there are a ton of Red Cherokees with lifts in my area. A ton! Mine is the only one with JK bumper though. I haven't even found anyone one with a JK bumper in the rest of country....yet ;-)

My Subaru was a red (notice the color trend) Legacy GT wagon. Loved it, freakin bad ***. For Urban/Suburban use...it's WAY BETTER than a Cherokee. Will outperform one on snow and ice any day (till it gets too deep). It loved the back roads of the central US too...way better to chase tornadoes in than Cherokee. However....the thing that killed it was it's ground height. Mine wasn't an Outback....the opposite...in fact it was lowered. Which is why Hurricane Irene claimed it...flooded out because I took it into water that was too deep for it. If I could one of each (Subaru and Cherokee) that is what I would do...but right now it is harder to find a Subaru than a Cherokee so I need to switch. I can come back to Cherokee later...cause I'll miss this truck too.

BUT even with this, it did fairly well in the epic Snowmeggadon events of 2009/2010

Yes...I did challenge it offroad:

Thinking of removing the molding, and herculing the rear interior. I have not had the head gaskets checked yet. Still driving without issue (other than the CEL light on) Coolant loss is minimal, never runs hot (even driving in this heat. Maybe 10 degree increase on the gauge.

I will post interior pics...keep forgetting to do that.
