progress on the tire carrier has been made, just down to the latching mechanism...
Full adjustability, Tilts up to 25* on the top setting, has 3 height settings and allows for backspacing adjustment.

I wanted to go with a different look than most the tube carriers out there, this is very strong yet light weight.

Really like the looks of it thus far. Nicely done.
Open ended engineering thoughts brought to you by a skunk that works: (Go ahead and dismiss them as you see fit.)
Area is rather busy already. If I want to use my bike rack I'm not sure there is enough room for Jeep hatch, Tire, and Bike. Not being able to run with a bike on the back is not really an option so I would want to have the tire in as close as possible to the Jeep without damaging the hatch or back glass. Moving the hitch mount out of the bumper is not really an option either as it messes with the lines of the bumper and vehicle. (If you like I could take pictures and measurements for all) Operating the folding latch on the bike rack is in below which should clear the bottom of ones tire.
Back to the swing out latch. What would be nice is if it used two aerospace guide pins holding it solid when closed mitigating any rattles. One of the pins could have a locking pin with it securing everything in place. Not sure where we get ours for work at the moment. Searched online and came up with ones that are not right for the application. Effectively all that would be required is to drill 2 holes in the bumper mounting the female end of the guide pins. Bumper would be flush only noticing two flat stainless holes hard mounted. Pins would be on a welded tab off to the right aligning with the ones in the bumper. Locking could be done from the top or rear. Top mount would be safer as gravity is always holding the pin down. Just change the flat tab to a 90 piece and your good. Manufacturing a bumper with the alignment pins and lock would be simplified over other witnessed designs. Huge plus is no noise generated from the lock or swing. Also one could still have bikes or other toys mounted back there.

Sounds good.

As for the bike rack, I plan to make accessories for it and one is a bike rack for 1-2 bikes. the center of the hub mount will have a 1.5" round tube with some sort of lock on it so you can put accessories with a 1" tube into it. I have tried to make this thing as modular as possible.
You read my mind on the latch, I am going to go pick one of these up today and give it a shoot. you will have to reach behind the tire but since it is single action it should have no problems. using a standard latch I would need to extend the swing arm at least 1-2 ft. this would not allow using of the hatch with a trailer attached.

That is one stout latch. PM sent.

Got the latch mocked up and it closes almost too good, to open it you have to pull out and up. this is because of the horizontal alignment pin. I still need to tweak the bumper side bracket some and add a hinge support brace then it should be ready.
A tax sale will probably start at the end of this month and run though april.
