Default shipping charges when ordering parts anger me

does anyone else feel that shipping charges are rediculous anymore ? bewtween quadratec and rustys (2 main places ir order from) i feel like im paying more for shipping then the items them self , quadratec is only 45 mins from me , why should it cost 20 bucks just to ship something so small ? i just ordered bump stops from rustys wich is only in NY about 2 hrs from me and my total bill was like 48 bucks but shipping was like an extra $25 , i know there small and dont wieght much , i kinda underdstand some companies go by flat rate and the amount of money your purchase was , i remeber years ago they actually went by size and weight wich way more reasonable, sorry to bitch but just felt like letting that off my chest hahahaha

Well... As a UPS driver I understand ur frustration. Most companies charge over and above the their UPS charge to make money. Then I get screamed at when I del stuff to people. Very large Corp. get very large discounts if they ship large vol. of boxes with us. Some charge u a little more some charge a lot more. As gas prices go up, so to will ur shipping charge. UPS is very competitive with its rates, but we cant do much when companies charge the coustomer a flat rate to help there bottom line. Dont scream at ur driver

I dont blame the driver but I understand where hes coming from. I bought a pair of riding pants for my kid for$30 and the shipping was $28 . BS in my opinion.

That would be because most outfits view pack & post as a "profit centre" - just like everything else. I know the P&P people need to get paid (I did P&P for a little while, yonks ago. They don't get paid much...) but there are better ways to do it than charging double what shipping ought to be.

I charge a flat rate. Yes, it's slightly more than what I pay for shipping, but that's done to cover the materials I have to buy for shipping (labels and tape, primarily. The Postal People provide the flat rate boxen I use,) fuel for running about to drop the stuff off (I usually have to run it in after my wife gets home from work. I really hope the Postal People don't close that mall substation nearby...) and for every third or fourth time the Postal People jack up the rate, I have to do so about once (I try to stay ahead. Not much - but it simplifies things all around when I can stay a little ahead.) I usually jump the rate once the PP rate exceeds what I've been charging for a little while, just to even it all out.

Yes, I'd like to make a little money doing what I do - but I prefer to do so by fair means, not foul. If this means my prices are a little sharper than others', so be it - you also know what shipping will be up front, and I do as much as I can to ensure quality of assembly before it goes into the box. And, I work to make sure that everything will be ready for you when you open the box.

Why do I use the Postal People?
- Priority Post - not more than three days (Sunday not included) to anywhere domestic.
- No brokerage fees (whatever they are) to Canada
- Flat shipping rate
- Delivery to APO/FPO/PO Boxen
- Saturday delivery at no extra charge (that's imposed by carrier, not P&P department)

I'm sure there are a few others, but those leap readily to mind.

Short form? I don't want to get rich, ergo I don't want to cheat anyone (which seems to be about the only way to really make it these days.) I'm not supporting a family - my kids are grown and out of the house! I work out of the house, which keeps overhead down (tax deductions are harder to figure that way, but that's my problem not yours.) And, this gives me the opportunity to do something productive and useful - since I can't work for anyone else anymore (can't keep regular hours, and I'd miss too much work on a schedule.)
