I know 20-30 people that have been in my unit since 98. So stability comes with what type of MOS you have. Jeepdreams, you got seriously screwed on your time off. We get a 4 day weekend at least once a month, plus our 30 days of leave. And we are always allowed to take leave whenever as long as it has nothing to do with training. I picked the Army cause I knew what job I would be doing, I didn't want to take my chances.

my brother (navy) was givin the choice of where to go. he put 5 places down (4 ships) and got the one he most desired. being stationed on the east coast, as a single person, it is somewhat difficult to get stationed back to the west coast. but they did it! he even put down the middle east (bahran) and they still gave him Washington.

i would have to agree tampa, I too am stationed at ft lewis and i just got here but i was in my last unit for 3 years and i am gonna be at this one for 2 years before i get out, so just pick a chill *** job haha, its a lot of fun, meet a lot of people and see a lot of things. but truthfully make sure its the right thing u want cause u cant just quit and walk away like some times i wish i could of back in the day. It has made me into a completely different person than i was when i entered the army and i cant be more thankful for that. But good luck with ur choice but i would chose the USAF lol i been deployed with them and ya much better than the army marines and navy haha.

I actually would welcome it, I am tired of making decisions, for once, give my brain a break

Air Force has a boot camp at San Antonio and I worked there at Lackland for a couple years and that is a much easier boot camp than what I went through many years ago.
um, no, y'all know me only on here, and that is understandable, however, I am very, very adamint on staying in shape, besides, I was considering the marines for a while, just to prove I can do it!, I am a very very very proud person, and I love a challenge.

BTW: Deployment, I wanna be deployed, I dont have a family, I dont have a boyfriend, or lover or anything, I dont have kids. I wanna be on long deployments, I wanna see the world, I wanna go "play army" lol I was looking for insight, oh and by the way, I am an Army ex-wife, I got a pretty good Idea on what I am getting into, I just wanted to see some other perspectives.

a close frend of mine was on a losing streak, no job, no driving licence, just split from his g/f so decided to join the army.

that was back in the late 80's
last time i spoke to him he had no intention of leaving as he said he loved everything about the life [infantry].
he has done northern ireland [when the troubles where going on] op desert storm and as far as i know is in afghanistan now. amongst many many others

as he said to me, treat the forces with respect and they will look after you.

so if you go for it, i dont think there will be one person on here who doesnt repect your decission sweetheart

good luck in your decision, it's awesome that this is something you really want to do. the closest i'm ever getting to being in the army is dating a soldier lol and it takes a really strong person to be in the military so i wish you tons of luck!!

One thing I was told, is a recruiter will want to put you in a space that needs filled and not one that you want. I was told this by a guy that served some years in Iraq. So not sure how true it is, just thought I would point it out...

Maaaannnn ur in for a whole nother ball game... ya know i didnt see anyone else say they were in the Marines or to go in the Marines which is kinda funny to me... i got out of the Marine Corps 2 years ago... did 5 years and i was a FA-18 engine/fuel cell/ throttle systems mechanic... Also was a plane captain... i did 1 year worth of school where i was constantly yelled at for stupid crap like not tucking in my shirt and stuipd stuff like that... no vehicles aloud by the way... then i got into the fleet where my squadron was leaving in 2 months for Iraq and Afgan on the USS enterprise... wasnt expecting that crap... by the way... dont join the Navy... boats sucks... navy folks trying to kill them selves all the dang time... watched a navy cat run and jump off the ship myself... got strapped to a bed for 3 days till the flew him out (there version of suicide watch)... anyways went on and volunteered for a 6 month tour in Al Asad iraq and then cross deployed into another squadron for 6 more months (volunteered again) and finally came back to beaufort SC for my last year... you know in all the volunteering i did... you know what i got... nothin... i picked up E-5 in 3 and a half years... hard to do if you didnt know... nothin... not even a letter of appreciation... when my CO asked why i was getting out i told him that right there... they dont care about you... your a tool... did you know if u get sunburned in the military you can get NJP (basically like punishment for breaking a small law) for distruction of government property? stupid huh? also the medical and dental... yeah most people get out after 4 years... 1 year of schooling or so... so everyone cutting into u has less then 3 years of experiance... my jaw is still messed up from when the pulled my wizdom teeth in bootcamp... so as with most things... u get what you pay for... free... yeah right...
