Well. It was a good plan. I stayed up. Made sure the time of day was ok to drive on the beach via town website. Grabbed my camera and headed across the street to the beach.

I got out onto the beach just fine and parked for about 5 minutes to let the ole jeep warm up a bit more. Headed on down the beach some and decided to not push my luck too much and decided to turn around and that's where trouble started.

I guess I hit a patch of sand that was wetter/softer than what I was driving on and got stuck heading back up to the ruts to drive back. I did get myself unstuck lucky for me there was a loose deck board laying just up the beach some. So I dug out a little, lowered the tire pressure and shoved the board under the rear wheel. I rocked back and forth a little and with a little cussing and swearing and throwing a fit and all around panic mode I got back up to the ruts.

I kept stalling over and over though (some of which I chalk up to me being panicked). I guess 4wd mode takes a little more gas than I thought and I just kept stalling out. I was afraid to give too much gas though for fear of digging in deeper.

I got off the beach and back in my house just in time too because now it's raining its butt off outside!

Lesson learned I guess.

I will have to be more patient and save up for wider tires and a lift after all. I was just impressed at its performance yesterday I figured it could pretty much handle anything. Now I have to ease over to the gas station later today and fill the tires back up.

the whole 4wd thing brings up another question. I dropped it all the way down into 4 lo and the Jeep really seemed to not like that at all. It made a horrible clunk sound and felt like it was doing no good at all. 4 hi seems to work just fine though.

I didn't even get any pictures because I was worrying about getting unstuck and the cloudy/foggy weather made it kind of pointless to take pictures.

lucky escape mate, ive seen a few cars flooded out on beaches .

i think sand is one of the worst things to drive on cause its all diffrent, never one bit the same so you have to think hard about it... and yes i got a few cars stuck on pendine sands lol

my jeep is an auto, but to shift into 4 lo, i have to have it in netral, before atempting it or the resolting noise is scarry lol, then i put it into 'd' and blip the throttle to engage the 4 lo, its the only way i can do it .

mind you i really want a hand throttle asap to make life a bit smoother over the rutty stuff lol.

Now that I think of it.... I might have been in 2wd when I went to make that turn. I remember at one point going back down to 2wd just to see how it did but I don't remember putting it back into 4wd until I got stuck. Hmm.

On the way back off the beach I kept going as fast as I felt safe (15 mph feels a lot faster on the beach than on the road) I was wobbling some from hitting the edges of the ruts but glad to make it off the beach geez!

That will teach me to never take the low road! I think I should have backed up and made a very shallow 3 pt turn.

I really need better tires ugh.

Well I was bored sitting here at work talking to myself. You mentioned wanting a hand throttle so I did a quick search. To my surprise they aren't as expensive as I thought. I wouldn't mind having one myself but I have lots of other things that I NEED before I get into the things I want.
