No dash lights and I keep blowing fuses :(
Hey guys, I'm new to the forums here and i just have a quick question.
I drive a 1995 Xj with 199,XXX and I replaced my turn signal bulbs just a few days ago and i blew fuse #15, and it kept blowing. Well a buddy of mine said he could fix it and put a 30 amp fuse in that spot well that started to melt so i pulled that instantly. Well when i put another 15a back in slot 15 everything worked! Except, my rear wiper kept going when my headlights were turned on, so i pulled that fuse and then my front washers kept going so i pulled the pump to the front washer pump and every thing worked fine. It's been about 4 days since i did all this and i went to go to a friends house and as soon as i turned my headlights on boom! popped another fuse so now i have no dash lights nor running lights just headlights. Any suggestions? Anything will help just pm me and ill get back to y'all as soon as i can. Thank you!

Update: I took the turn signal bulbs out to see if they had anything to do with it. Nope still blowing fuse #15. I think it might have something to do with the light switch.

There is also a plug for harness under/near front of the air filter box for all of the lights. Check that too, I have a 95 and it was a corroded mess. I eventually wound up deleting it all together.

Your buddy is an idiot. Never let him advise you about cars again, and probably not on any other subject.
Never overfuse. Find the problem and fix it.
The whole purpose of a fuse is to protect the circuit from carrying more current than it was designed to carry. If you allow the circuit to carry excess current, you can melt things, damage components (like wires, connectors, bulb sockets, etc.). That can mean hours and hours of chasing problems and repairing things. Worst case you can start a fire.
I would carefully check your light sockets, and the wiring to them, for broken or loose wires. Get a meter and start looking for shorts to ground.
It's also possible to get a bad bulb out of the box that is shorted internally. Rare, but it happens. Pull your new bulbs and see what happens with your fuse.
It's quite possible that your buddy has caused you multiple other problems, in addition to whatever started it.
Did I mention that he's an idiot?

i ended up buying a new headlight switch yesterday because the guy at the part store said his old jeep got a short in the switch itself. but ill definitely take a look at the wire harness and take a look at all my bulbs. Thanks guys on the advice it really helps!

if this started when you replaced light bulbs it might have something to do with the wiring for the bulbs shorting or grounding out. Have a close look by pulling the sockets out and inspecting.
