I envy the shop. Do yourself a favor and build a small shed, 8x10 or so, for lawn equipment and storage of wife's junk. Don't let her in the shop or she will take it over. I learned that from my father's example, poor bastard has a 2.5 car garage and can barely fit a YJ in it.

So last few weeks was really busy for me, fixing up the place. Etc.
Moved the parts MJ into the garage, took the axle out & prep it. Ordered new e-cables for it. Brakes look good, everything else look good.

I eyeballed the pinion angle and copied it on the other axle. I even used the angle finder on the iPhone to try and make it little more uniform. Since most of my tools were still in storage, I needed a way to hold the perches on it.

Drove the other MJ in, and started disconnecting the axle. Only things left is to disconnect the brake soft hose.Attachment 297187
Traded a set of cables for a 1996 brake booster, master cylinder, and prop valve along with 97+ windshield washer bottle.

So let's hope the pics work this time
Today I disconnected the brake line, pulled the axle out.
Checked the brakes. Well there aren't any.
Moved the 8.25 under the axle. Pinion angle is perfect, width perfect, and I set it down on the pins.
XJ rear brake line terminate just front of the axle. MJ rear brake line terminate at the rear of the axle. The way the flexible hose was bolted on the axle wouldn't work. I simply unbolted the solid brake lines then turned it around & hooked it back up again.
The 8.25 u bolts are too wide to fit through the spring plates so I had to unbolt the bottom shock nuts. I ll bring them to work in the morning and slot the holes.
I also pulled the driveshaft because when I unbolted the yoke straps, the caps fell out and there's no needles at all. The trunions on the yoke was eaten up. I ll have to press the joint out at work and put in new one also.
That's it for now

Today I finally welded hangers on the 2.5 exhaust tailpipe and secured the entire exhaust to the convertor. No more zip ties LOL.
Took it out for 1/2 hour spin around town. It feels like a new truck, save for occasional rough idle whenever at a ref light. I think it's probably due from a broken knock sensor that I cracked when I installed the exhaust manifold.
Also. There's been hard clunks/thumps whenever letting go of gas pedal when I drove it home from New Jersey. After noticing that the needle bearings were absent from the driveshaft ujoint, I went ahead and replaced it.
No more clunks. It also brakes better now. However it still take a second longer than it did for my XJ. Probably due to inferior brake booster design. Well good thing I got the 96 booster. That ll happen soon.
The rear proportioning valve linkage fell off before I had it inspected and they said I gotta either eliminate it or find a replacement. I didn't find one yet and I don't feel like making a DIY linkage. Since I'm gonna upgrade the booster eventually, I ll also use a XJ proportioning valve later on. For now I hung up the proportioning valve with a wire. Hopefully they won't notice it this time. Ha.
