Default Loud whistle when idling

I have had this problem for a few months now and it's a huge nuisance. Sometimes but not always when I'm driving and I take my foot off the gas to coast there is a very loud, very annoying high pitch whistle coming from my jeep. I drive a 2000 cherokee sport. I have taken it to my mechanic maybe 2 or 3 times each time claiming to have fixed the problem but that is not true. If anyone knows anything about the whistle and perhaps how to fix it let me know. Thanks.

sounds like a vacuum leak from some where .... is it idling any higher RPM than usual ? dry rotted rubber caps sealing off the vacuum ports? broken or damaged intake manifold gasket ... maybe gummed up throttle body throat not allowing full closure of butterfly.

vacuum leak, Grab some TB cleaner, and spray around all the vacuum hoses, see if your idle changes in any specific spot when you spray. That's probably the source of your vacuum leak. Also look for any hoses that have come loose, and are hanging down.

Loud whistle when idling-image-449924089.jpg These things.

Mine does this also. Just not often enough as of yet. Mainly when it is chilly or cold outside though. Never does it in the summer.

I also had a whistle from my 2000 xj. Does it sound like this?
I ruled out vaccum leak because the vehicle still ran fine. No noticable loss of power from what I understand is a sign of a vaccum leak. My suggestion is to re tighten all the intake manifold bolts. The
ones towards the back seem to loosen up just a tad. But make sure you torque them down to the proper specs as well in the proper order. If I find a diagram of the bolt pattern I'll post it.

Thanks guys! I'm in the works of getting a new mechanic and I'm gonna take a look and see if I can't do it myself. Lots of support on the forum. Love to see it.
