For 8th the ratio is .58 and for 9th it is .48. I don't see that difference dropping the vehicle below 800 revs at 70 mph.

I've been wondering if the 9th gear shines when fuel consumption is tested on rollers without wind resistance where it could well go into 9th at something like 70 mph. But, EPA supposedly has features in its rollers that create resistance like one would find on the road. But then again I'm not an engineer.
Sounds like you guys need something else to occupy your time.Have fun in life.

Some of us are retired (in my case for 18 years). Maybe you will be one day as well.

So you are telling us that you don't put any thought into what you are buying and afterwards what you have bought. FCA must love buyers like you and may dislike buyers like me.

Girls! Girls! Pleeze! And ya, GR, 800 rpm was not what I was thinking. Too many motorcycles in my life. I was thinking maybe along 1100 rpm. But I am sure it is entirely up to the computer when 9th is allowed. Perhaps a future flash will amend that.

This might be the answer. Video is a couple of years old but it is a test of the Rover Evoque that has the same 9 speed ZF transmission that shifts to 9th at 70. What I did not know until watching this video is that the Rover has the Ford 2.0L turbo engine. In 2017 the Escape engine puts out 245 HP and has 275 ft lbs of torque. The reverse of the Cherokee. That could make a difference where the engineers would want it to shift. Maybe a techie here can comment on that.

I can attest that the Escape goes like a scalded cat. The 2017 is a surprisingly good vehicle. It also has the start/stop (which can't be turned off) but it works very well. We had a 2011 Escape and found the Cherokee to be better in all areas. That is certainly not the case with the 2017 Escape. It still has a six speed transmission that appears to be highly adequate.

The 2017 Escape is NOT an off-road vehicle, does not have a transfer case and cannot be towed flat behind a motorhome.

Hey GR. I was raised on the Grand River (Galt) when the plastics fasctories pumped all colours of die into it creating ice rainbows in the winter. Those were the days, eh?

Moved to the Windsor area 8 years ago to be close to one of my son's and his family. We were just outside of Brantford a few doors down form the Bell Homestead where AGB said he had the idea how to get voice into the wire while sitting under his dreaming tree.

Kind of miss the area. We canoed the river a few times and it sure looked different from water level. We overlooked the river and Michael Swanson did a painting of how the view looked in front of our home in 1784. We were given one of two special prints. The other went to the retiring President of Laurier University and the original oil is in the Laurier collection. We waited over 8 years to have it framed and now I see it daily and wonder why we left. Our lot was 2 acres and we had a concrete pad for our motorhomes (have had five and recently sold the last back to the dealer and we are now out of that way of life).
