I think their evaluation is right on par...for someone living in the suburbs or even a city. Those people will end up staying in that 3-5 gear range, where you are going to get the harder shifts. For people travelling on highways or back roads without as much traffic and stops you end up sitting in 6 and 7 for the most part, which are much smoother gears. And if you are using it for off roading, you want to be able to feel the shifts so you know when the power is changing. In my opinion (after a year in my own), the transmission is doing just fine.

There was also the engine. I know I'm going to get yelled at by a certain member for saying this, but the 4 cylinder just isn't the right engine for this jeep. And it seems like most of the engine problems involve the 4 banger. Sure, it will get you where you need to go and its peppy, but I believe that any SUV should have at least a 6. As for the blowout they had, in the video they mentioned that they changed the oil twice...in 16000 miles. Sure that may be on par for the next year, but they clearly didn't break it in properly. They should have had at least twice as many in that time. It may have been their own fault that they ended up with oil everywhere.

I also feel like they severely overpaid for what they got. I have the V6 Trailhawk with at least all the features they have (except heated seats...they probably have those) for the same price, give or take a couple hundred. I also get the same mileage they get. My best was 30 and worst was ~16 while towing. Overall I've averaged around 23-24. In my case, I would buy again, although I would probably skip on the extended warranty since scratches on the skid plates all but void it. And to go one step farther, I would recommend it, at least in the configuration I have.

I agree with Lighttoast regarding the V6. To be fair, I haven't driven a 4-cylinder TH, but I *have* had my V6 for a year and am just not experiencing the transmission issues I keep hearing about. And maybe it's just confirmation bias, but I'm not seeing a lot of V6 owners complaining about their engines' performance here or elsewhere.

I believe the correct response for this video would be "Would we buy the Cherokee again?" Yes but just without the issue ridden 4 cylinder, which seems to have had its fair share of problems since day one. As stated above none of the 6 cylinder people seem to be complaining one bit.

quoting myself, and adding,
after the new engine, and the oil squirting freely from where ever.. i have had no major issues, it does go through oil fast, i made mention of that observation in a previous post some time ago..

as far as power, for a 4 banger it is a beast.. im not sure what gears the other models have but my TH and its all ADIIL system aint no chump... especially it being in a 4000lb ride..

mine does not perform until you hit 3k rpm in 3rd gear.. after that hang on.. it maxes out at 68 mph on the red line.. its half sports car thing & half off road machine, l. drive it like a sPorts VehiclE should be driven..
