Low water dangers!
the fascia or that lower piece of plastic with the hole under it will act like a scoop for water and you wont see it coming.. it will go straight up the radiator in that big void unchecked and will go straight into the air intake..
i have never seen a trail rated anything perform so poorly.. even the tow truck driver that towed me out of my cousins DRIVE WAY.. which has a low water crossing.. said.. that $*** aint right!!
guys.. be careful.. i would call this a flaw..
i have dunked my 96 xj where water was over my hood.. no problems!! i thought id be doomed! it came out of it! kept going.. ..
My 08 JK was a trooper too.. had it in some muck..no problems..
I was not goofing around or playing simply going home..
Also the wiring seems to get super hot on them.. mine almost caught on fire.. i say again.. this shouldnt have happened period.. not on a jeep! of any sort!
other than that.. i liked it.. but im going to be refusing to take it back.. the thought of being on an actual TRAIL IN A TRAILHAWK and splashing around in the mountains now is NOGO! i wont have something trail rated that cant handle going through water at a low speed.. God forbid someone has to push through a minor flood on the road one day to reach a safe point..

I think you just swamped it, it happens, nothing happened to this dude
ETA:
or this dude
JMO, tow drivers are only good for financial & dating advice, not wheeling.

Something fishy here. I'm sure the Jeep engineers would have been aware of this.
Of every KL forum I've visited so far, there are no other mentions of this issue.

MY TRAILHAWK wouldnt survive this , its way too harsh..
mine fizzled out in less.... bumper does not part the water on the trailhawk. it sends it up like airflow.... take note!

sorry i tainted a jeep forum with a range rover..
i bought a trail rated jeep.. and it left a shallow water crossing on a roll back.. and i was not even having any fun at the time!! had that been the case i would not post my concern to fellow jeepers about how nothing is their to stop water from shooting up into the intake.. a piece of plastic? maybe..? or what ever could have diverted it.. preventative measures seem to be ignored..
after seriously thinking about it all.. it acted like a scoop. and thats what it is.. by design its meant to feed the multi air intake im not an aero physicist but come on.
i live in the country also.. and high water happens! i would not and do not feel any security and have no faith in the trailhawk at the moment.. nor would i even attempt now going into the places i took my other jeeps i feel id be stranded.
it could be a fluke event heck i have not had time to have fun in it.. took it fishing once through a cow field.. performed well on flat ground..
prior to this event. I was loving everything about it.. the active drive is awesome. its a jumpy little beast also.. but its not worthy of a trail rated badge..

Just to be clear OP, you didnt try to show off, speed through the water and stop short cause you go scared or someone called out to you. Like you said about water fording, almost any vehicle can safely dive through X amount of deep water, where X is relation to its size, but once stopped all that water need somewhere to go.
