I agree with you that the KL rear layout is the least attractive of the four sides. It's very... plain.

1) I owned a patriot (a severely underrated jeep btw) and I was able to get the Freedom drive 2 package, which includes all the off road stuff (hill decent, skid plates, tow hooks, "low" range, increased ground clearance, and a bunch of other stuff) for around 20 grand. Its a package you can add to any trim. on the cherokee, you have to buy the trailhawk where it basically has every option besides the v6 as standard... which brings it's cost up so high... Why did they do that? I would have traded my patriot in on a new cherokee in a heart beat if I could have gotten a base model and just added the off road package...
And for off-road, it will never be able to be modified like a JK, so it is what it is. But it will surprise you.

Overall, I have the same issue with a LOT of car manufacturers' designs there. So few cars look good from the back that I wonder what they're thinking. The 2014/15 Corvette, on the other hand, has a great backside. But most cars? Ehh... not so much. More functional, as if it it was all an after-thought.

I have the most "base" model you can get. 4-cyl Trailhawk, no tech package, etc. Still was $29k, which is a big chunk more than the $22k I paid for my '08 Patriot with the FDII. But even in the base package, it's much more vehicle than the Patriot was.

I've driven both the 4 and 6 in the new Cherokee.
if you like power and can afford the extra cost of a 3.2 V-6 get it, the MPG is only 1MPG difference....29 for V6, 30 for the 2.4 4.
I just bought a 2.4 Cherokee Sport and it's peppy but I would have gotten the V6 but I didn't want to pay $4,000 more which is what all the Cherokee's (Latitudes) were going for with the 6.

yeah, if they could take off a few options and offer a trail hawk for around $25K I probably would have upgraded, or if you got the v6 for $28ish, higher chance I would have bought one...
Oh well, living it up with my 25 year old cherokee.

Ok, now that I have your attention, there has been an influx of haters coming here to bash on the new KLs and their owners so I will say this once and once only. If YOU have a problem with the KL or ANYTHING negative to say twords it here, keep your mouth shut and negative opinion to yourself or Cruiser and I will personally see you deleted from CF. This section was meant for ACTUAL owners, perspective buyers or members who love ALL Jeeps. Its not the XJ, DEAL WITH IT!! If you feel the need to trash talk and put down owners and new members, go back to FB where you belong with all the other pre pubescent, teenage, living at mommy n daddys house, dumb kids.
So bump

You can get the V6 in the Cherokee LATITUDE for $28,000.......that's about 4 grand more than my 2.4 Sport.
I tried to find the V6 in the Sport model but couldn't.

Glad to hear you're still kicking around with the classic. Keep it up!
FWIW - I paid $29k for my 4-cyl TH. Brown leather seats, nav... nothing else.

Great post! I've owned a YJ wrangler since 1994 and I remember when they replaced the CJ all the hate that YJ owners received about square headlights and a car like dash. But no YJ hater realized all the good aspects of it and the most Important the line was kept instead of being dropped. I still have a YJ and will wheel it with the best of the older and new modern jeeps.
This past year I received an xj from my mother that she and my father had since 1997 but he passed a few years back and she wanted to keep it in the family.
Once I received it I never realized how capable of a machine it was until I took the time to understand the vehicle. Now I have built it with 29" tires, chromoly axles, dual ARB lockers, disconnects, etc... And I get why would you do that from xj owners not understanding that you dont have to have 31-37" tires and huge lifts to be capable on the trail.
Now I take it out on trails with the open diff big tire rigs turn the dual lockers on in the hard terrain with and go places that they can't.
Generally haters are ignorant of the vehicle, change and capabilities or just cant afford the new one. I would be glad to trade my tricked out xj (over $10000 in mods) for anyone's trail hawk
I'm glad to see the new cherokees and hopefully one day will have one added to my stable.
Can't wait to see all the trail rides with them....

V6 KL Sports don't exist, the Latitude is the lowest trim you can get a V6 in a KL.
Trim level restrictions and packages being required for certain options annoy the hell out of me, but pretty much all newer vehicles are like this so I can't fault Jeep too much (but it still sucks).

Cruiser, if you could delete this post I would appreciate it. I don't seem to be able to figure it out on my end.
