Default Acceleration Wobble

From day one I have had a slight wobble, more noticeable wheels turned right, from a stop and just after takeoff. I have gone for a ride with the dealer and pointed it out and we even tried a different car on the lot, same as mine, to find it there too. I just get shoulder shrugs from the dealer but wonder if anyone else feels it and if there is a logical explanation.

14s and some 15s had a bad front axle design. The fix is a larger diameter front axle. There is a TSB on this. They should know about it by now. I have heard of at least one 16 with this issue but the TSB doesn't apply to '16 so nothing had been done.

Thankyou for that sir. I am certainly going to run that by the dealer.

I had mine done no questions asked. I knew about the TSB going in to it. I expected the dealer to try to dodge but he didn't.

My mother in law, on the other hand, had the same experience as you from a different dealer than I. They tried to blame it on balance and alignment and after I told her the TSB number she had it fixed no problem. Sad you have to become an expert on your car in order for the experts to fix it right.

Checked under the car. My 2016 has the straight diameter center shaft just as pictured. So, Jeep continues to install these shafts in the brand new car and hope we won't notice? That is just lame.

There may be a new TSB on 16s. I haven't noticed but I haven't been looking either. That is pretty sorry yours has the bad shafts.

Keep an eye out here:

and you could always fight with jeep about the issue. There is a member on Jeepforums called JeepCares and they can give an extra bit of info or push issues, from my understanding.

Considering the other on the lot we tested has the same, it is like Jeep is still poring them out with no upgrade. It is a sad case.

Took the info to the dealer. They are looking into it. But here's the thing, no matter how many times I tried yesterday, I could not reproduce the wobble. Any chance it could just go away? or is it Gremlins playing tricks on me?

Mine didn't go away. I noticed it everyday in the same spot. Stopped turning left down a hill onto a main road. Accelerating throughout the turn to get up to speed. Also did it if I turned right but I always noticed it under those circumstances on my route daily.

Just seend these on jeepgarage.com

06/24/16 … 2016 ….. RC-S39-16 …. Right Front Halfshaft
06/24/16 … 2016 ….. RC-S38-16 …. Left Front Halfshaft

In the pictures of the recall instructions, it shows the older diameter shafts like you mentioned before.

Looks like they are replacing those with the same thickness half shafts. Not the ones that cure slow speed acceleration wobble. I am now across the country and the wobble is still there. And wouldn't you know it, The replacements have finally arrived. Replacing when I get back home.

So, If my 14 was ordered with ActiveDrive2 and off-road suspension, would it already have the larger axle or does the TSB still apply?

Doubt it very much. Easy to check with 02's first reply #2 top of page. TBS showing the skinny half shafts. Just look under the front and they are there at each wheel.

Yes. Very noticeable between the two. The tsb didn't come out until 15 I think so I doubt a 14 would be mfg'd with the fatties.

Just got back from the Dealer. Half shafts replaced. Only took like an hour and a half. And the difference is like night and day.
Had a vid card for sale and the buyer showed up in a 2015 Cherokee. Asked him any tranny probs and he said he had read about them but nothing with his. Then asked him if he had the slow speed wobble and he said yes, in a big way. Said he asked the dealer about it and they said they would look into it. So far, nothin. I gave him the info on the upgrade and hopefully they will listen to him. Bit of a **** off this whole head in the sand thing.
