Over the life of mine (~10000 miles) I'm averaging 22.5. Driving to work and back and just typical driving (35-45 mph with stoplights every few miles) I get around 23. I average 25 on the highway (65-75 mph). With a kayak on top I average 24 highway. With a bass boat in tow I average 15 highway. The best I've seen is 30 and that was averaging 55 on flat flat flat roads with no traffic and no stopping.
That's in a v6 trailhawk. So yes, I do see a vast improvement over my XJ which saw 23 (averaged 17-18) at best when it was stock.

Now these are some cool numbers! Glad to here the epa numbers werent just pulled out of thin air. My grandparents owned my xj before me and took it to canada a few times they said they got 26 mpg a couple times. Im assuming thats at perfect flat roads, etc.

I don't thing the KL/XJ compression will ever happen, mainly because the chances of finding a bone stock, like new Up Country would be darn near impossible, and if one was ever found there is no doubt that the owner would not take it wheeling

Could be that they were using imperial MPG and not US MPG, that works out to 26.42 MPG because the imperial gallon is slightly larger

Sorry the truth hurts
I would love to see a non bias side by side of the new and old Cherokees. I am on the old style side of the fence, but it is all because of the looks, not because I think XJs are better than the KLs. The KL should be the better machine just because of the 13 years of technology advances. Just think in 13+ years people will be saying the KL is better than the 2027 Cherokee
and the old XJs will just be faded and rusted memories

and the old XJs will just be faded and rusted memoriesyep... thats what i am seeking.. a non biased test.. in several terrains this is why the offroad park would be better suited than just an old trail somewhere.. plus their will be plenty to witness the event!

You might not be able to find someone with an Up Country in shape that's willing to test it. What about someone with a Cherokee that's modified similar to an Up Country? 1-2" max, no rear sway, 30x9.5s, posi or lunch box locker rear, skid plates. It'd be a pretty comparative test.
