Default reliability issues?

Looking into a new jeep cherokee, curious if there are any known mechanical issues or any reliability issues.

Love the 4wd and and MPG, just trying to do my homework before it buy.

Any info would be much appreciated. thanks guys.

The 9-speed automatic has been a complete disaster with a ton of early failures. They keep claiming it is "fixed" but then we still see more with issues (albeit less than the earliest ones), maybe they finally got it right, but only time will tell (due to this if you are interested in a KL you may want to lease it rather than buy it, if they really did fix the issues you can always buy it at the end of the lease, if not you just turn it back in and walk away from a lemon). On top of that there are some known electrical gremlins (FCA has never been very good when it comes to electrics/electronics).

Not sure how much stock to put in consumer reports rankings, but they ranked the KL Cherokee as "least reliable compact SUV" (and didn't have many other pluses):

While Grand Cherokee had its pluses to go along with the minuses, the smaller Jeep Cherokee rated poorly almost across the board. Consumer Reports thumped the small SUV for its “unrefined” character, its terrible fuel economy, “jittery” ride, and “not very responsive” auto transmission. Oh, and it has problems that start appearing from the day you drive it off the lot. Reliability ranked worst in the compact SUV class.
