Default New, to us, 1991 Cherokee Briarwood

Wife has wanted a jeep as long as I have known her. Except the model she really wants (wrangler) doesn't quite fit the budget. But since her van was dying a slow, painful death and she needed a new vehicle... well, we found this sad little Cherokee for a few hundred (sold one of _my_ toys to have the money though...)

I foresee a lot of tinkering in my future.
One of the first fixes though will have to be the hood latch. Cutting a zip-tie to open it every time seems a bit... well... annoying.

It has seen its better days, hopefully I can bring it somewhat back to glory, with help from one of the kids (who -loves- tinkering on other people's vehicles.)

So here we are, in the (usually) green Pacific Northwet (Oregon).
I am hoping to learn a bit about this truck so I can make it into something she is happy with.

That is the plate that was on it, haven't changed title/registration/plates yet. Previous owner hadn't put the title in his name either so I don't know who this plate actually went to since the title has a different number/letter on it.

I have a 91 and yes you have a lot of work to do. BUT it is fun and local Junk Yards usually have what you need, and don't forget about E-Bay, I have gotten almost everything I need from E-bay. when it comes to real important parts like ball joints and stuff in the undercarriage, I would go to the jeep dealer and get the proper item, after market stuff sometimes just won't hold up, and when it comes to safety, you want the best. good luck and enjoy your XJ.

Don't get your hopes up too high. It is going to be a long, slow process. I got the tools and know-how... but don't have the money (always that money problem).

Mechanically we got a good deal. It is more cosmetics than anything else at this point... I hope. one of the previous owners just about gutted out the interior, took almost everything out (and what is there is loose).

The only way I can get most of what I "need" is through ebay and wrecking yards. Mechanically it seems pretty good. If you don't mind the way it looks, and lack of headliner, carpet, consoles, seats that adjust, and the other things that make it nice, it does actually run and drive. It is roadworthy, but just not as nice as it should be. And the wife does want me to make a few changes... she keeps talking about lifting it a little. And of course she wants the seat to be able to adjust forward and back, she doesn't need to be that close to the dash to see the gauges.

There is definitely a diamond under all that "rough".
Hardest part will be getting it the way the wife wants it (bought it for her, time to retire the soccer-mom mini-van).
