New from the Great White North! A Canadians search for XJ tips..
Hey Guys,
I've been reading a tonne of stuff on here ever since I picked up my beautiful XJ, Betty. I spontaneously decided to take the long way home from college this last May, so I bought a 1990 Cherokee for 1300 bucks. She made it the whole 2000 miles home without missing a beat! I want to continue to improve this jeep, as I've suddenly realized (thanks to CF!) it's one of the slightly more rare and reliable Renix years without a spec of rust, and only 150,000 miles. (After reading around on this forum.. I think I actually got a pretty sweet deal??)
So far all I've done is build a quick plywood roof basket (for the summer, to eventually be replaced), a decent VHF bush Radio and aerial, some quick homemade mud flaps, and replaced the water pump.
I would like to get into fabricating my own bumpers and other mods, and figure out what best/minimalist engine upgrades will increase power and reliability. Ultimately I want a Cherokee that can take me on any adventure. I'd love to figure out what major maintenance items are gonna start to hit in the next 50,000... and nab em' before they become problems.
SO.. I figured it was time to join the forum and get connected with the XJ community.
I'm stoked! You guys throw up some amazingly useful stuff on here. Many thanks!
