New girl from WA with 96 Grand Cherokee
Hello everyone!
My name is Amelie and I am originally from Europe but I live in Kitsap County, WA.
I've always been interested in cars and used to do a lot of things myself on my first Golf second generation but with Uni and work I kind of stopped showing interest.
And then I moved to the US and now it's back. I like big trucks and four wheelin'.
I bought a '96 Grand Cherokee yesterday. It seemed to be in a good shape. The interior is very clean and it was cheap enough to warrant putting more money into it right away. As it was running well and until then a daily driver I figured I could just use it right away. Well it just stranded me at the gas station. It wouldn't start. All the lights came on but when I turned the ignition, nothing. My kind of luck is having to walk home with a toddler and a baby.
My husband is pretty good at mechanics but this is my car so I will probably have a lot of stupid questions.
I know how to use the search engine on here and already found some information about what the issue might be (Neutral Safety Switch), so I hope I won't be too annoying and maybe even helpful with certain things.

Hi Amelie and Welcome to the Forum!
The ZJ is a great rig but as with any older vehicle it has its share of problems that can occur. Here is a link that provides a nice checklist and procedures for fixing common problems.

Best of luck and let us know what you discover.

Thank you so much!
I will check out the link and other areas of the forum.
I have to add that we replaced the NSS and that solved the issue of it not wanting to start. But on my way to work today it starting shifting like a racing car as opposed to a cherokee so I'm goung to have to look into the transmission. And I have a massive amount of questions about that.
