So it looks like the necessary fix is splicing the little red wire from the drivers side plug into the blue wire of the new harness. is that it? Everything back to normal after that?

Yes sir, I had to do this on my 99 with factory fogs and no issues after that.

Thanks for the quick response. Btw the difference between old and new harness is night and day. I can't believe I was skeptical and held off upgrading as long as I did.
