Does anyone's dimmer work? Not sure if its the lights or head light switch... I got an aftermarket cluster cover and it allows light in so its way too bright to see at night....

Dimming is possible, but would require an additional circuit be added to the power input of the light circuit(s). To dim them, a pulse-wave-modulation circuit would need to be added... basically turns the LED off and on thousands of times a second, lowering the average light output. I figured it would be a big pain in the *** to get right and I didn't think it would be worth the cost or work involved.

"writeup/examples" are in a different post below.
Note: Pre97 instrument sets have been tested, but not a lot. If you are interested in red, white, blue, or green gauges and instruments in your pre97 XJ, send me a PM and I'll go over my concerns. Basically, red wasn't liked by the one person that got a set and the HVAC backlighting is pretty crappy in every color. I'm not sure how it looks stock, but it may just be the design.
interior sets include (in white only):
-rear dome
-front dome & map lamps, or overhead console lamps
-courtesy lamps for the front floor wells
-vanity mirrors bulbs
-glove box bulb (pre-97 only)
instrument/indicator sets include (white, blue, green, or red):
-gauge cluster LEDs
-transmission and transfer case LEDs
-rocker switch LEDs
-HVAC LEDs
-Fog Lamps "on" indicator (blue or green, 97+ only)
-Defrost "on" indicator (red or yellow, 97+ only)
-High Beam "on" indicator (blue or green)
-Turn Signal indicators (blue or green)
I have tried multiple bulbs of the different types and some felt cheap, many didn't fit, and some just ran too hot for my taste. Others were not bright enough and some output too narrow an angle. My goals were ease of install, even lighting, brightness, and longevity.
The LEDs I've selected require no cutting, hot glue, solder, or any other modifications to install. They are plug and play. Glue may be desired, but I have not found it necessary.
Notes:
Interior Sets are brighter than stock for all years. I recommend them to anyone that would like more light on the inside of their Jeep.
Instrument Sets are a cosmetic change from stock. I suggest these sets for someone that is looking for a cosmetic change to their instruments. --Blue and green work very well in all years.
-White works, but isn't a dramatic change from stock.
-White takes on color of filters in displays.
-Red works but is dim in some places. Not generally recommended for pre-97.
-Red may distract from noticing brake lights and vehicle warning lights
-HVAC panel is dim/unevenly lit due to design for all colors (even stock)
-Dimmer **** will no longer dim the lights effectively
Price list for 97+
$35 total = for interior only (front = dome or OHC) (white)
$20 total = instrument/indicator sets (red, white, blue, or green)
$50 total = combined interior and instrument set
Price list for pre 97
$35 total = for interior only (front = dome or OHC) (white)
$25 total = instrument/indicator sets (red, white, blue, or green)
$55 total = combined interior and instrument set
All prices include US shipping.
Shipping to Canada is an additional $5.00

The engine lamp assembly uses the bulb as the one in the standard from dome of all XJ years. The issue is that with moisture, heat, and vibration, the bulbs tend to break and the contacts in the enclosure corrode. There aren't a lot of 44mm festoon loop LEDs out there to choose from.
What I tested, but don't sell, is an LED strip/bar with 3M adhesive on the back. They are pretty cheap... $10 or so on ebay depending on the size. To use it, I removed the stock assembly, used some light sandpaper to clear corrosion off the contacts, and soldered the LED bar to the posts that the stock light contacts.
It's plenty bright for minor maintenance at night, but the wires that go into the bar aren't anchored to the module very well. I never actually installed it permanently in my jeep. I intended to find something with better weather proofing and a way to mount that didn't rely entirely on tape/glue because of how hot the engine compartment gets. Below is what I tried to give you an idea.

Just got my set for the 87 in the mail and haven't installed them yet(I'm doing the headliner).
I'll put the foot well ones in tomorrow. All I can say is that the customer service, communication, packaging, are OUTSTANDING!! What a pleasure dealing with people like Jason(Sanjo). I'll comment on the bulbs I install tomorrow. Thanks again Jason.

ordered my bulbs last week I believe on Wednesday, got them Friday night. put the lights in Saturday afternoon and wow are they bright! the overhead ones light up the vehicle like no tomorrow. I went with red for the dash, hvac, trans, and transfer case lights. I was warned that they don't show very well in the fransfer case and tranny and hvac. but I got some ideas roleing around in my head to fix those problems. thanks a lot for the great service Jason (sanjo

For the transfer case, (theoretically) I think the easiest fix would be to have someone print the shift layout (black with clear letters) on a piece of adhesive plastic sheet. The print that's on the stock bezel could be chemically removed, I think with nail polish, but I need to confirm. After that, place the sticker on the back of the shifter bezel. And I've tired brighter bulbs, but they don't help.
For the HVAC, there are bulbs that have been reported to work well, but they are $7 each or I'd have to put down like $300-$400 for a bulk order, which brings them down to under $1 each.
This is a hobby for me right now. I'd like to get more into this after I get out of the Army. I would put these sets on ebay or amazon, but I'm concerned about the customer service responsibilities. I don't have time for it right now.
But yeah, once I increase volume I can get the red set right and improve on the blue/green a little. I'd also like to get stronger loop festoons for dome lights, but I'd probably have to pay for a design and large quantity. I have a lead on a new bulb that's out that might work, but again... Expensive except in bulk.
