It turns out that it's not the holes that are too small, it's that the cheap $2 switches I bought are larger than the spec! And now that I know that I feel comfortable selling it with the caveat that dash trimming will probably still be required even with Contura V and X/XI/XII styles.

I'm supposed to get my test vehicle out of the shop today. If that ash tray pod fits like it should (and I have no reason to think it won't), it'll be up for sale by this evening.
BTW that's the maximum angle I could go without needing to cut the center console for clearance and you still can't read the labels easily. Someone on IG suggested installing the switches upside down so you can read the labels.
