Default Wiring roof lights ?

Hi all,

My lovely wife has bought me 4 rectangular spots for Christmas (top wife !) I'd like to wire the lights so they are fixed to my roof rack and can be unplugged when I remove the rack, ideally I'd like to bring the wire in at the front somewhere near the A pillar how have you guys fitted yours and what do I need to look out for ?

Thanks

Martin

Would drilling a small hole in the roof be a problem for you? If not, a quick disconnect from say the roof rack to a plug at the roof of your XJ would be easy. Items easily found at a Radio Shack.

Not a problem for me, where would you route the wire once in the cab ? Down the A pillar and into the dash I'm guessing ?

Radio Shack no longer exists in the UK many years ago it did and was called Tandy Electronics, now we have Maplins pretty much the same thing.

Thanks for the advice.

here is what i did, and will start at the roof and work down.
i mounted all of my lights then wired the lights into a flat, 4 way trailer plug connector.
then took the other end of the connector plugged it in and matched up wires (i wired the 2 middles and 2 outters separately).
then carefully drilled a hole just big enough for my extension cord to fit. (i used orange extension cord material, it is just 3 10 gauge wires in one nice neat loom)
then went behind the headliner and into the trim peaces. then under the a-pillar trim, under the dash, and through the fire wall. from there it was just basic wiring. i can get pictures if you want.

I did basically the same thing Jeep Bandit did, I drilled my hole right under the roof rail end cap. I chose to use sealant designed to hold aquarium glass together, works awesome, its been over a year and no leaks.

That looks very clean! I might have to use that idea when I get lights.

i mounted my lights on my rack ran them to the back of my hatch where i have quick disconnects. I ran wire harness from the battery to the back of the hatch keeping it hidden under the interior side molding. Its clean, out of the way and i can take it off when i want, and i dont have to worry about my jeep leaking in another place like the roof. I like to keep my engine to all the leaking lol

This is my set up. Just add a trailer connector wherever you like, probably near the rack. Took one bolt off of the fender under the hood pull fender away from firewall half an inch, ran the wire through that, up behind the weather stripping on the windshield on the A-pillar, and there you have it. Very easy. Took about 20 minutes to route that section. If you don't like the look of the cables running about 12 inches from the A-pillar to the rack give or take, drill through the roof. But I was -not- drilling through my roof.
