Winch
Im sure there are many winch threads out there but i would like a few quick replys on people experience with certain brands. Warn is running a rebate sale that ends today and i know they are typically the route to go are there any other solid options at a decent price? Thanks

I run a Smitty bilt x20 gen 2. Its waterproof, wireless, and 10k synthetic is only 550. I need to repack it with high quality grease but other than that it is a great winch.

Yes,,like Fred said look for a good waterproof one.. find a winch you like and start to hit the forums before you buy to see what other ppl are saying about it.
But as for my winch.. I have the Super winch TS 9500 sr. I have pushed it through water many times.. I have synthetic rope, but changing to steel. The synthetic rope that came with it is cheap and any rubbing on rocks tare it up.

I have an Engo E9000S and have for many years. It is a great winch. Ive drug my Jeep through a few miles of bumper-deep snow, pulled suburbans up hills and everything in between. I probably use it about 10 times per year. Lifetime warranty. It is not as fast as a Warn but they work great. Also had it under water plenty of times.
Here is a shootout that made me go with the Engo-

Prior to the Engo, I had an old Ramsey that lasted me for a very very very long time. Finally burnt up.

I love my Warn and wouldn't buy any other brand now. I've got a broken Mile Marker in the garage and it worked fine before the motor burnt up but was very slow. My smittybuilt was a piece of junk, had to hold the handle to keep it engauged and was almost as slow as the MM. I had a Superwinch on my Yota and liked it, no issues and speed was decent.

How'd you fix the Smittybuilt one?

the zeon is a great winch. fast and powerful with a lifetime warranty. try to find that with any other brand.
i have the warn m8000. it's a pretty decent winch for the money. i've had it almost 15 years. it's been under water a lot and have pulled everything out of almost any place you can think of. still works as good as the day i got it.
we have a 6 year old titan 12000 on the wifeys tj. it's still hasn't been used other than to load an xj on a car dolly. it's a chinese winch, so we're trying not to use it until she needs to, but i'm sure when that time comes, it probably won't work. lol.

Yes another good point is parts availability and someone to work on the brand you buy other than a single place.
I also had issues with the syn rope that came on my winch it frazzled and scraped on everything from tree bark to rocks in the soil winch up an embankment out of a river. After 6 uses I pulled it off and bought wire rope to replace it because of all the small cuts and loose fibers on it. My 9.5 Talon Superwinch has done everything ask of it and been under water almost every time we go out as we have lots of streams and creeks to cross. I have not did anything to it since the day I installed it other that keep the cable coiled straight, its sealed from the water.
In some areas I'm sure it would be fine but my area mountains, trees, rocks sharp smaller ones not boulders it failed quickly, I do use my winch a lot.
YMMV

i also prefer the steel cable. one good thing with warn is they have stainless steel cables and most external polished parts.
my cable still looks good and my freespool handle is still shiny chrome where as the wifes titan has a badly pitted freespool handle and her never used cable looks corroded.
