Ordered the spectre off a site called Carid yesterday. Got an email today saying its on backorder and likely won't ship till Nov 20th.
Of course they told me that after they charged my card....

They did the exact same thing to me on September 28, Website said it was in Stock, Called them and they said it was in Stock, ordered it and sent an email that said
Upon processing your order, our manufacturing facility has informed us that the following item(s) are backordered with a new Estimated Ship Date as shown below:
New Estimated Ship Date: Nov 2nd, 2015
Reason: Manufacturing Delay (Build to order part)
I was pissed.

PS: Sending you a PM

Yes, second to only a snorkel. It does cause significant intake noise inside of the cabin. The noise only gets loud on a cold start and under WOT. It's a nice deep tone so I enjoy added noise.

I'm just hoping it actually shows up and we don't get another email pushing it back further

That's the 1987-90 version that takes air from the wrong side. Most of us need the version that takes air from the passenger side, where the cowl is covered.

Tip for the future, do not buy anything off of CarID they are terrible with customer service and do not update their website. I've learned that the hardway..

My recent emails sent to Spectre were replied and signed from K&N Engineering, just not sure how long K&N has owned them, I know my emails back in April came back signed from SpectrePerformance, but the ones in July came back signed K&N.

I like that set up. Wonder if there's a way to modify it to fit a 2001.

Default bump

id like to bump this question again to see if anyone has found a vendor selling cowl intakes for the XJ. (Particularly late XJs) As of March 8th 2016, I still cannot find THOR or Spectre selling theirs, and CarID still advertises a Spectre intake, but just lists it as out of stock once you try to purchase it.

There aren't any all in one kits. You can build one using spectre parts and silicone coupling.

I can't help but feel this has to do with the big bust in China's economy, stock market, currency value against the dollar. All of this came along about the same time frame when this came to light. I could be full of it but I follow the business markets and the small ones in China were impacted hard.

It was right after this that stocks of these on dealers shelves here in the US became depleted and all were being marked as back ordered. Then never came back into stock for anyone.

Spectre has not had stock of this product for a while because they were redesigning the product. It could still be related, but I think this was a poor product decision rather than a market crash issue.
