I want to take up the carpet in my xj and put some form of rubber liner down and I've read alot about different products like herculiner and different bed liners both roll on and spray on. So I anyone has done this what is the best product to get and whether to spray it on or roll on? I would like to spend as little as I have to but at the same time I want a good product so any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks guys!

Line-x hands down. I ran a dealership and we did alot of truck beds (makes used trucks look much better) the line-x looked the best, lasted the longest and looked good after time.

Rhino looks just nasty after awhile

If you do line-x do the clear coat over it, it makes it smoother and it grabs less gunk/dirt

You're looking at two very different products here, and very different costs. Line-X, Rhino, etc are very good products, very tough, and very expensive compared to a DIY kit product.

I've done several vehicles with Herculiner, and liked it. It's a bit grippy, and will get dirty, but you can wash it out. I only bought it when the gallon kits were on sale with the rebate, the last one I bought I think was like $60. There are several similar products out there now too.

I think the next time I do mine I'm going to try Durabak. To my understanding, it is teh same product as Herculiner (and also available without the rubber granules for a smoother finish) and comes in a lot of different colors. It's marketed as an industrial coating, but the same stuff. Worth a look.

Thank you very much for the clarification im thinking im gonna try herculiner first because alot of people have told me it was good but I did take a look at the other product recommended so if I have the extra cash I'll go with that, again thanks for all the input!

having worked for line-x for several years i can honestly say its a damn good product thats worth the money but to spray the inside of your jeep is likely to cost more than the jeep is worth, so id suggest picking a roll on or spray can product.

I did rustoleum liner, and it was horrible.
Herculiner didnt come out bad.
Monstaliner worked the best for me though.

I've used both raptor liner and monstaliner on my jeep. I sprayed both. I think the raptor liner is easier to use and comes out a little nicer over all.

The other thing I didn't like about monstaliner is that the hardener is like a jelly. So it makes mixing smaller quantities very difficult. Where as upol's raptor uses a liquid catalyst.

Whatever DIY bedliner you get make sure it has a mix in catalyst hardener. Those are the only ones that truly hold up. Stuff like hurculiner even with proper prep still is soft and tends to peel up. We did my brother's gmc truck bed and the underside and rockers of my old 00 xj with herculiner and tons of prep. The stuff didn't hold up.

Now the raptor liner and monstaliner on my 98 xj have gone to hell and back and it still looks like the day I sprayed it. I have raptor liner on the underside in black and monstaliner in lighter gray for the inside to match my interior.

I do think that raptor sprays better then monstaliner. But monstaliner rolls better if you chooses to roll it.

Monsta, raptor liner, and durabak are the best DIY kits IMO

Line-x and gatorhyde are 2 of the better professionally sprayed liners

i found the cheaper stuff like herculiner, rustoleum, ect tend to look like crap when rolled on....but when sprayed through an undercoating gun the texture and finish looks a little better.


overall though, you get what you pay for

Monstaliner. Theres a whole thread on jeepforum about it. From all the reviews and info i can find its more or less the best do it your self stuff. Thats the stuff im going to use. Also if you are a member at jeepforum you get a discount. Or you used too.

whatever you decide to use do not use the spray can stuff, it is very cheap and just looks like flat black paint . i used it on my little race truck i was building and was not happy with it, it faded and chipped off very easy, so i would only use roll on or spray-in

Is that a column shift I see? Pretty rare if it is.
