welding stainless to mild
Can you weld stainless to mild steel with mig? I have an idea on a tire carrier spindle.

Yes you can, but you would need 309L stainless steel wire.

I made a 1" spindle out of 304ss and a sleeve from 17-4. How well do you think this will work?

which one are u gonna weld to the mild steel?

I don't think it's a good idea to weld on 17-4. The 304 can be welded to mild steel using the wire I recommended above.

Gotcha. The no welding route will be double shear so probably better anyway.
