The front HP44 from a JK has the same ring and pinion as a standard 44. Only the rear JK44 has the beefier Ring and Pinion.

The quest might be over. Another friend is parting out his built TJ and will sell us his axles pretty cheap. HP30 and D44 that he's wheeled HARD on 37s, broken, and upgraded. I know the rear has chromo axles and a truss, waiting to hear what's been done to the front. I know the rear will need a little fabbing, no biggie...or 4 link the xj which would be cool. Will the front arms, spring pads, shock mounts, driveshaft, steering, just bolt on?

Way too pricey. Might as go with a Rock Jock at that price. Larger tubes among other small things

TJ and XJ dana 30 should be identical, including steering. If you're trying to use the TJ control arms I'm not sure if those are the same length as XJ but they will bolt on. drive shaft is direct bolt on, once again length could be different

do you know where your friend got his rear dana 44? I don't think those ever came factory in TJ

Apparently rock jocks are even too pricey/pretty to install, if I had a set I think I would just leave them in my garage.

The JK 44 is a great swap but definitely requires some work to get in under there. Click on the blue jeep in my signature to take a look at my build thread if thats a path you're interested in. Its also worth noting that the JK 44 is 5" wider than a TJ/LJ/XJ axle necessitating swapping in a rear JK axle at the same time to match width. Worth it though!

They were a option after 1998.

The tj front axle is a bolt in for a xj only thing different is the tj came low pinion only.

Didn't ask. There's a shop next to his work that specializes in this stuff so maybe there.

This one's HP but it seems to be stock other than gears and ARB. I'll have to see what it's out of cuz it may be no better than what's under the XJ. He has wheeled it hard and don't recall it having had any issues, but he's broken so much stuff I don't remember any more. The body got ripped apart at the rear last time out and he decided he's done with the TJ and probably getting a JK. Nobody will buy it for decent money so he's parting it. My buddy might buy the whole thing and steal from it, it's got a rubi t-case and some other good stuff that could go onto the XJ. If he puts both jeeps in my driveway I'm confident I could 4 link the XJ if he wants to go that route.

really? Nice! I wonder why those aren't a more popular axle swap for Xj's and why I've never heard of them before

Cuase the TJ guys with them either keep them or want a mint for them.
That's why most of them swap in 8.8s instead of the factory bolt in.

you know, except the D44 in the JK rubicons from '07-'11 that use a Spicer 5-7166X wich is a 1350 join.
