Trans cooler mounting

Trans cooler mounting
i picked up a Hayden trans cooler and was looking for a diff way other then using the pull tabs threw the radiator to hook it out? Dose the cooler have to but up against the radiator or can it be spaced?

Should come with foam pads for spacing, make thicker ones if you like. You just want a solid mount with air flow. But honestly I have mounted the spec way on chevys with not one problem in 10's of 1000's of miles.

I used flat bar to bolt mine to the header panel. Doesn't need to be attached to the radiator at all. I prefer to have it bolted to the vehicle in some fashion rather than to the radiator.

Use the flat bar method and bolt to the header, not directly onto the rad.
The plastic zip fasteners supplied do not stay tight, the cooler can vibrate and rub thru one of the rad fins, leaky rad.
If you do use the zips, space generously with foam at the zips to keep vibrations from damaging the rad.
Check em in a month to insure still tight.

Yeah, I have seen the zip ties wear through the rad before. Best way is to use some of those sheet-metal brackets like you find at Ace or Home Depot and DIY

To clarify, if your rig has AC than it is the condenser that is up front, radiator is behind it.
Transmission coolers should not be mounted directly against condenser or radiator without pads to space it off. There needs to be a gap.
I mounted a plate&fin cooler to the header panel. Remove the grill and you will notice tabs at top and bottom. I believe a couple of the tabs lined up with mount holes on the cooler, others I drilled.
Mounted in front of mechanical fan for airflow at slow speeds (beach driving).

So the cooler can be a inch or so away from the radiator with out any issues? Why do people connect them so close the the radiator tho? I run duel electric fans if that makes any diff

I believe it matters but there are some that say different. Tube&fin design does not matter, it is plate type cooler that does.
If inlet/outlet is pointing down than fluid may not circulate throughout cooler, just flows into cooler and along bottom to outlet. Also trapping air in top of cooler.
If inlet/outlet is sideways, use lower connection for inlet, upper for outlet. This will fill cooler from the bottom up.
If connections are on top, it does not matter which is which.

Space it or not - some do, some don't. You decide.
People definitely recommend NOT having the inputs and outputs pointing down.
Install that sucker already.

There are reasons to not mount directly to condenser. Conduction, when AC is operating heat will transfer into transmission cooler and into fluid.
Efficiency, if mated together airflow will be reduced. Wear, contact points will cause wear/damage due to vibrations.
