Default TerraLow

Hey guys... Pretty sure my 231 is going bad- it groans and vibrates in 4H, has alot of play in it etc. etc.

I could buy a rebuild kit and go from there for a couple hundred bucks or, for ~1200$, I have two HD options which I probably need...

http://www.quadratec.com/products/52254_102.htm

OR

http://www.jbconversions.com/product...ete_stdsye.php

I would much rather have the 4:1 reduction that the terralow comes with if it is a reliable piece of machinery. I have heard both good and bad, apparently they changed some things a while back and it is better now (Wider chain, different planetary etc. ) Is anyone here running one and if so, how do they like it? Noise is not a factor but reliability is.

A third option would be building an HD one. I have read a few threads on Pirate and the like and this seems like it would cost almost as much as buying one of these two with the possibility of me messing it up.

Thanks!

Have you looked in to a dana 300 swap? With the 300 you will have to buy a flip kit but you can twin stick it and a set of 4:1 gears is 650 bucks for it.

If you opt for the TeraLow, get the 2Lo kit as well.

This is another option; a bit more expensive but no chain drive to replace in the future. (:

Have you sold any Serious? Of the Tera-low? Any problems?

Haha a little bit more than I want to spend and probably more than I will ever need- I have plans to modify/beef up my transmission down the road and could do it for the price difference Pretty awesome piece of equipment though.

Yes, and I've installed a few them as well.
I know one guy that blew his up but he's a special sorta wheeler. 40's and every obstacle is attacked with a lot of skinny peddle.

Other than that, no other issues that I've heard of.

Well sweet- I finally might have to order something from you! Did not know you carried them. I am going to do some more reading- I know they come with a 2-year warranty. Just worried about the stroker is all- not that it is a major destroyer but my stock stuff has been failing since I put it in lol.

Only people i heard breaking one was trying to use it with huge tires and a hardcore rock crawler type. The kinda abuse that would kill pretty much any t case.

I highly recommend the NP241 RockTrac found on 2003+ Rubicon TJ's. Bolts right up to your transmission and fits the trans tunnel perfectly.
4:1 ratio and the internals and case size are impressive. Has performed beautifully offroad under my XJ.

Finding the np241or isn't as easy as you would think it had a short run of 3 years,The dana 300 would take a adapter kit but its a stronger case that can be twin sticked and 4:1 gear sets are out there for it.Just depends how you want to use the jeep on which way to go.The other options are a doubler or a underdrive box between the trans and t case.

Did not know about that option... thank you!

Unfortunately, after a quick search on online junkyards (I know any near me don't have one) Doesn't look like there are hardly any out there... the ones that area are selling for more money than the Terra-Low.
