I did alot of searching with no real answer.......ive heard when you do a stroker motor it can run funky due to the comouter and things being off or whatever. Can I just do a stroker motor and pop it in with no problems? It will be a slow project with a friend that swaps these motors in a few hours so I know he can do it.......

Just wanna know any cons of it cause I dont want the headache with a small block swap for power. Would rather upgrade whay I got since its a DD/ weekend end wheeler.....

Any help would be amazing

I did the stroker last summer, if you want my opinion, i gotta say, it was probably the best thing i coulda done as far as an engine upgrade! It was quick and easy and runs like a champ! All i had to do was take the engine out, take it to the machinist to bore it out, pop in the new pistions and other new parts while i was in there, and it was done. I love how much power i gained and i love the low end torque it gives me on the trails and even towing some toys. If you've done research you've probably seen that it gives you a ton of torque and does on lot for the horsepower, beats the small block in the torque area according to Dyna tests. I did mine to 4.7L, but theres lots of options. I honestly say, the only con would be the thinner cylinder wall, which isn't much of an issue, but i've heard the engine wont last as long as say a regular rebuild, but so far mine has been a beast and i'd recommend it to anyone...hope that helps a bit, and i think i can find you a writeup somewhere to tell you what you will wanna do as far as specs go if you really want me to!

There is definitely a wow factor added in a stroked 4.0L engine. It will eat up any other in stock form anyday. But you have to keep in mind that if you are changing the length of a stroke in an engine, you are going to throw the whole engine off balance. If the engine is built right, and very well balanced, you should be okay. With the 4.0 having such a long crankshaft, it is very easy to run into problems with a stroked crank added. Make sure that crank is balanced 100 percent. Also you will have to get some extremely lightweight pistons and also wrist pins. Giving a longer stroke is adding multiple times the amount of force slamming that piston down when it hits BDC. you want lighter weight moving parts to keep the rod bearings to keep from flattening out, or chucking a rod. You may also want to consider getting a rev limiter, as that engine will run higher risk of a malfunction at higher RPM. With that being said, that's just my two cents. But they are nice motors!

I helped a friend build a stroker in the parking lot at school and we did it very cheaply since he already had a few 4.2 and i had a few 4.0's. It ran and was awesome, basically just swapped the motor and broke it in. I think he made a map sensor and other power adders after the motor was broken in. It ran for about 5 months then some of the lifters collapsed and he lost oil pressure, not sure if they were stock 88 lifters or aftermarket. Ive always read that strokers are hit and miss with reliability.

Man oh man, so everyone has different thoughts. I really think it will be a fun little project. What was the costs if people dont mind me asking? I close on the house im buying tomorrow so money is going to bo divided equally.....60%/40( of course higher chunk to my joop)

I say totally go for it. And if you do it yourself, it'd be a lot cheaper, but i say maybe around 3 thousand for a shop to do it. Just make sure they are a reputable shop, and they are good at building engines, and it'll be sweet!

Why not just buy the titan motor or are they not as good as they say bc they got a new 4.9 stroker I would like to install one day

and building your own is FAR cheaper
