I have a Sterling too. I have seen the kits to cut or shave some off the bottom of a 14 bolt. You weld a steel plate back on an the diff cover it diff. I could only find one guy doing this with the sterling on Pirate4x4.com. The guy never finished. I would like to do this just have not seen it done all the way through.

Ok so I bought the sterling axle. I will need to get drums for it and replace pretty much everything having to do with the brakes. Simple. The sterlings leaf spring perches are 1 inch wider the my jeeps. Can I do something to align it better kinda or will it be ok to run withe the spring slightly wider on the axle or will I have to cut them off and buy a set of new spring perches. Most likely I will go to a pull apart auto salvage yard to get u bolts and the top plate. Also theres 2 wires that plug into the top of the differential that Im hoping are for a stock electrical locker. Havent pulled off the diff cover yet. Will get pics up probably tomorow.

Took the diff cover off and it had pretty nasty oil n gunk, gears look to be in good condition. Acording to the metal tab on one of the bolts it has 3.55 gears which I will eventually replace with 5.13's for 37" army takeoff tires. Again its leaf spring perches are overall 1 inch wider than the stock dana 35's. Should I be ok to use the stock perches or will that one inch cause havock? Thanks in advance for any answers.

make sure you look at the 37" baja's they are so much better than other ones.

Those look like their pretty great tires pretty cheap too. I know of some tires that are off army hmvee's or however you spell it and for about 350 I can get four 37" bfg tires and four steel rims of any bolt pattern. I know a guy that got them for his super lifted chevy and their pretty awesome.

they suck on light trucks your buddies chevy is probably fine but a 3500lb XJ isn't going to get them to bite way to light weight. those baja's are only load range D so they should be a little softer.

yeah it is full float. you can tell by the hubs on the outer ends and the bolts on the end of the hubs. there the 8 bolts on the ends of the axle.
