k im not sure what to do here.
like the title says i have a 2001 jeep cherokee limited with the select-trac (AWD) transfer case a and D35 with ABS.
im looking to run an LSD with 31s and do some wheeling but i keep reading that the D35 is junk.
i would like to run the chrysler 8.25 or D44 if i can find one but with the transfer case i have and the ABS what are my opions?

You can swap in axle of your choice and and do away with ABS. Basically, your ABS will not function if it cannot read the rear sensors. Others have had luck pressing on the ABS tone rings on other axles. I do not know much on that subject tho. If you know how to drive, ABS is overrated.

I've had ABS D35 next to Chrysler 8.25 and it would be an impossible task. You'll have to lose your ABS.

im looking into the same on my 01. best bet i can see with a little cash is a ford 8.8 from an explorer. A little work to do, but 120% stronger. 95 and newer has disc brakes, and hopefully you could find one with a tracloc.

just so im understand correctly, if im willing to loose ABS i can go D44, C 8.25 or ford 8.8, is this correct?
95% of cherokees dont have ABS so i dont think its a big deal.

ok great then ill loose the ABS.
im picking up a D44 with 3.73, will that work with my D30 3,55 front axel?
or do i need to change them out to be the same ratio.

No it will not work your gears have to match front to rear

What did you get the D44 out that it came with 3.73 gears?? If it is an OEM D44 out of an 87-89 XJ, it most likely has 3.55(auto) or 3.07(manual) axle gears. I have never heard of them putting the D44 in a 4 banger XJ but, if they did it would have 4.10 gears and be worth it's weight in gold!

You could possibly get away with the 3.55/3.73 gear mismatch if your Jeep saw only offroad duty on definite low traction surfaces. I.E. mud, snow, sand, etc. If you're ever going to drive it on pavement or even hard packed dry dirt, I'd go ahead and re-gear them to match.

not sure what the D44 came out but the 3.73 where ordered from summit racing so not factory.
Yea i may switch the rear gearing to 3.55.
Jeep will only be using 4WD when in snow, mud or trails but i will be using it a lot on the highway so the 3.55 will be better for gas.
i was told that the gearing doesn't have to be the same as long as its not more than a 20% difference is this correct?

The gearing needs to be the same. Period.
