Just seeing what you guys run? Im planning on installing a locker in the rear of my 8.25 rear. My buddy is outperforming me on the trail with his Aussie locker, but it clicks when turning a corner in parking lots very loudly. My jeep is a DD/WW so I would like it to be quiet without sacrificing performance.

I have a powertrax no slip (yes it is a locker and not a limited slip). It is much better than other lockers, but occasionally will pop.

I have Spartan lockers front and rear. (D30,C8.25, with 4.88's)They make a light clicking when turning in a parking lot, but not to bad. Once you learn how to drive with them it's not even noticeable. They were abit loud when I first installed them but quietened up pretty fast.
Learn to coast on curves and turns. If you give it gas on a turn it will bang pretty loudly when it unlocks.

Had an Aussie now a Spartan. Was running two Spartans with a manual trans and it was a bit annoying. Got rid of the front one for now. 85-140 gear oil really helped calm them down as they would pop, un rachet too much with 75 90. Run. a thick gear oil and it will be okay. Or, save for a selectable.

For your rear (as it is used all the time) I would suggest a quality auto locker and not a lunch box. The best you can afford for me that was a Detroit Locker as it is a full case locker (very strong) and not as noisy as a lot of the others I also use heavier weight gear lube but any locker will click turning very tight mine does but very little and when expected it should.


In the long run your money will be well spent on quality, for the front not used as often a lunchbox is fine to save money. Read carefully about what you chose to make sure it is a true locker and not a ls.

I was reading up on the Aussie, Powertrax No-slip, and Detroit Locker. For now, I'm probably going to try the Powertrax. It only has to last a couple years until I can get a selectable locker. I would go with the Detroit but for the 8.25 it's almost $300 more than a dana 35 version?

I've had a spartan up front for a long time now. Has gotten noisy but after a new spring kit(10$) and fresh 85-140 oil it's quiet as ever. You do learn to drive it so it almost not even noticeable. But It will pop occasionally.

Sub...I'm also in the market for lockers. Been thinking of a Detroit in the rear and a Aussie or Spartan up front. I'm going to re gear at the same time so just saving up funds at the moment.

The thing about the rear is there is no carrier break so I stuck with my lunch box when I re geared to save money. If I blow it up I'll get a full case locker.

Rear I have a true trac front right now and swapping for a tjm pro locker. May go selectable in the future for rear too.

Ah, I have a Truetrac front as well. Goes where I want it. Was curious on the Powertrax noise in a front as you never really hear of anyone using in front.

I have a powertrax in the front and its quieter than the detroit I have in the rear. But I love the durability of the Detroit I have.

I like to recommend thick gear oil, 75-140 and an aftermarket heavy diff cover to reduce the click noise.
