Power Steering
Hey guys,
I have a 2001 Jeep Xj and was complaining about the loose front end. I saw my gearbox going bad so I wanted to do Durango Gear Box upgraded and I slapped it on plus a steering plate on the uni body to stiffen it up a bit. Got everything slapped on. Filled the reservoir up. Drove it home and now my power steering pump is whining and the fluid is correct. It didn't start whining till i got the gear box on. Any help would be very helpful because I'm stump. Thank You

Air pockets in the lines or pump? Have you tried turning the steering wheel from lock to lock about a dozen times to see if you can work out any trapped air?

You want to bleed the power steering with the jeep off front jacked up and turn the wheels from lock to lock to get the air out repeat until wine goes away.

If you turn the wheel with air in the system it will aerate the fluid to the point its almost a foam. So fill it, turn it a little and let it sit overnight if you can, then check level again. You may have to do that a few times to get it to stop whining.

You have to do it while the jeep is not running. If you do it with it running then it with aerate and foam like crazy. Just went threw all this with my jeep a few weeks ago and my daughters Subaru this morning. Not fun.
