I think those are 13" travel shocks that are also mounted an inch below the factory stem hole.. so yeah 10-12 depending on lift height. you can run 12's with short arms at about 4.5" you just need to utilize limit straps (as everyone should)

Finally got my 2 36's mounted up front. Still have to groove them.
Lift is no more than 2.5". My overall height is 69"(not including adjustable luggage rails) with 36 x 12.5 x 15 with 4psi. Double checked this with dad's 95. His sits at 66" with 2" lift and 28" tires.
Anyways if you are wanting to do a lcg xj it's my suggestion to run a flat belly. Easily made with a 10" c channel. Mine is flat with the bottom of the frame.
So as comparison my dad's with 2" lift and 28" tires(loaded) has 12.5" under the crossmember.
Mine with a 2.5" lift and 33.5" loaded tire height (2 " of squat with 4psi) has 18.5" under the crossmenber. So basically have 6" more clearance with only 3" overall height. Just something to think about.
My unfinished jeep as of today. Have to mount the stock front flares back on.

what would be your thoughts as to go about a homemade 4in lift so i could run 33's i only wanna homemade lift cause i'm strapped for cash being 18 with no job currently

But with 4 it changes a lot. So you will have several other issues you will have to deal with.
Go with a simple 2" lift for less than a hundred dollars. Makes a big difference. Then later when you can afford it go 4 if you want.

I lifted my xj when I was 16 with a kit, if you budget right its more than doable.. while employed. Do what you want but it seems a little irresponsible to me.

I feel your pain, I'm at ~3" and running shocks for a 4.5" lift with my 33's so I can get the droop I want. Up-travel is only about 3.75" which leaves quite a bit of room in the fender well but, when I jump to 35's, I should be right where I want to be.

I'm running stock jk shocks all the way around. Which means no droop.. Which it's ok because I originally bought them knowing they were temporary. But now it's a pain the the *** and I wish I would have did it right in the beginning.
