Default Lift vs. Insurance

I have been shopping for different insurance and one company has refused to insure my Jeep because of the lift. Has anybody else encountered such a thing?

My lift is quite moderate, it is only 3 1/2 inches.

The company is Ameriprise through Costco.

Farm Bureau never even asked to see my XJ, but since it is an 85 I can only get liability on it. Probably the difference between being in Ky and CA.

Don't know how good a insurance company is through Costco. I have progressive and they did everything over the phone with me. Didn't ask to see my jeep or any work that has been done to it.

Too late! They asked for pictures of all of my vehicles prior to insuring.

I only wanted liability and they were still spooked, don't understand why.

X2, If anything happens it was lifted after you insured it but you provided a picture. In my experience I have never had an insurer ask for a photo just registration information.

Only thing I can think of to make them ask for photos would be if you ask to cover it for more than the book value. If the book is $4k and you ask them to cover it for $6k to cover accessories that have been installed, I imagine they would ask for photos. Sort of like trying to insure a classic Mustang you have restored or similar vehicle.

I have USAA. They didn't ask about the condition of the vehicle at all, none of my vehicles. I only have liability, so value of the vehicle never came up. I can see a Costco insurance company asking questions like that and shying away from ANYTHING modified. They are out to provide the cheapest rate, so anything atypical costs more one way or another. Higher risk.

Really ??

Liability means they pay for others when you mess up and hurt them.

A lifted truck is a modified truck, and as such, an increased risk of something breaking on it resulting in a wreck or of it being driven recklessly and causing damage to others when you lose control....which means they have to pay out $$$.

Do you really not get why they are spooked ??

Just like a Hellcat Charger or Challenger....price out insurance on one of those....they want 2k MORE per 6 month than I am paying now for 3 vehicles....why ?? because it has too much power for the average person and can very easily get out of control. Same principle. By the way, I have 0 tickets & 0 accidents on my record for the past 15 yrs or so........and a credit score well north of 800........so it ain't me !!

OP'er, you might want to shop around for another insurance company.

I've had a bunch of different insurance companies over the past decades.
None of them asked for pictures of my vehicles.
The vehicle year, model, VIN, State resided in and license no. is all they needed by phone.

I saved hundreds of dollars/year for my 4 vehicles switching from Farmers to Geico....
2 full coverage and 2 liability only including my XJ.

I hit a deer or i should say it hit me a few months ago and Geico was right up front immediately. Repair was fixed in one day.
No i don't work for them! lol

Comparing a Hellcat that can go from 0-100 in 7.2 seconds to a Jeep that will never see 100 isn't a great comparison. They would insure the Hellcat but not a lifted Jeep. If they wanted a little bit more money that would be OK. This was a flat rejection.

I second this. Geico was cheaper than progressive by quite a bit. Progressive also dicked me around for awhile when I cancelled my insurance with them. I had double coverage for two months because an incompetent employee decided they didn't feel like doing their job when I called in to cancel and they owed me that money.

15 minutes could save you 15% on car insurance!

Sorry had to throw that one in. I have Geico on my Jeep and my DD. When I added the XJ, it only went up like $10 a month (multi car discount helped). Full coverage as well. No pictures required. 14 years of a clean record here.
