Talking Are there 'Normal' Driveline Vibes?

I've been searching around on this for a while, can't really find anything specifically so figured I'd post up.

I bought my XJ lifted 3", and while I do notice some vibes, I really have no baseline for what is 'normal'. I get some vibration at certain speeds, like a resonance throughout the unibody, but nothing that rings any alarm bells as feeling wrong.

I'm sure the best thing to do would be check out a stock Cherokee at a lot somewhere, and see how it rides as a comparison. Save that, I am here asking what y'all think.

Any description? I suppose I could describe mine:

Some times it's hard to tell whether it is engine lugging or driveline vibes, I've got a 5 speed. Mostly what made me post the thread is traveling ~35 or ~48, in third and fourth respectively, I get some choppiness under medium acceleration. It almost feels like an overtight motorcycle chain feels, or even a little similar to low-speed lugging on the engine. It borders on feeling like an engine hesitation but the accel isn't affected other than not being smooth.

It seems to clear up as RPM/speed increase.

I had vibes with my 3-inch lifted XJ until I put in a SYE and CV shaft. Then I had vibes from my worn mud terrain tires.

I'm at 5" of lift and have NO vibrations. Smooth as silk. I have installed a SYE with double cardon shaft in rear with rear axle rolled up pointing at the TC, greased all joints, and set my front caster to 5 degrees. Running 33x12.5 General Grabber AT2s.

This sounds like driveline vibes due to the lift. I have a 5.5" lifted 5 speed and experienced what you describe. I used a combo of tcase drop and shims in rear to compensate. If you let off the gas and just barely press it you should be able to feel that resonance you describe. In my experience driveline vibes are nothing like tire or steering vibes and easily identified once you know.

SYE and new rear driveshaft is the recommended fix.

Thanks for all the responses. I actually have a 1" Tcase drop kit I ordered with the lift and am planning to install this weekend when I recheck all the suspension torques. I'll report back if that solves my problems.

Tssanni - When you talk about shimming the rear axle is that in order to change the angle of the differential to correct the driveline?

I installed the TC drop and it has smoothed out A LOT. I still get some vibes, notably a cyclical vibe around 80mph. I'm looking into U-Joints though I have some learning to do still before I can diagnose it.
