Knocking Sound After Transfer Case Drop
Hey guys, I've got a question about my 2000 Cherokee Sport 4x4, 163,000 miles.
I installed a 2" lift and dropped the t-case about an inch. I get a solid clunk/knock (no rattling) the moment I accelerate or the moment I apply brakes; not while braking or while accelerating if that makes sense to you. When turning and the road surface is a little bumpy, the knocking happens with every bump.
Any suggestions? Thanks for reading!

BNJeepsta: Yes, the bolt on my transfer case mount closest to the front left of the jeep is cross threaded and not fully tightened down. Although the other three bolts are tight, I'm pretty sure it's sliding on me and clunking around.
holycaveman: Yeah, really tempted to get rid of the drop. Although I'll want a shop to do it because rethreading a bolt hole is not anything I enjoy doing and the cost of those damn tapping and rethread kits are ridiculous.

fannitti: Haven't thought about the exhaust! However, the type of clunk I hear is a solid metal to solid metal type of clunk, not hollow metal of an exhaust pipe if you catch my drift.
Thanks for the replys everyone! If you could use your knowledge to help out on another more confusing problem, please follow this link https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/gri...t-axle-198899/

do u hear the clunk while driving or at idle? cuz i hear it both on mine i just looked and saw my exhaust hitting. best bet just ditch the spacers and do a sye lol. thats what im gonna do i got to go to the jy and pull a 242 case and install a tom woods slip yoke all on the bench then throw it in the jeep so the jeep isnt down. jy wants 75$ for a tcase and i have to pull it not to bad.
