so i spent the day on the phone with mile marker and their engineer says he has never had any problem with the set up i should be able to run a much bigger tire if i wanted to. I have come to a conclusion it has to do with my wheels, the studs our dorman and are grade 8 and have .279 on the head if it means anything, i went to order studs from mile marker and they suggested i go to the part store with the part number they gave me to save shipping so i know i have the right stud installed . i will load up pics to show kinda what i am dealing with. today when i pulled the lug nuts off to take a pic there was a sleeve/insert of some sort that came out of the wheel never have seen this before

what are you torqueing those bad boys to? You blast them on with the impact or actually use a proper torque wrench??

EDIT: NEVERMIND. just realized that when I opened the thread it took my right to page 2. Appologies

I know this is an old thread, but there isn't a whole lot of info on these conversions.

I have the mile marker conversion kit as well that came with my XJ I bought. I put the kit on, and I have a stud that is stripped. I know you mentioned about getting one from an older ford, is that the correct stud? If so, do you remember what year? I asked MM and they said they didn't know of a vehicle to cross reference, but I could order from them for $15+shipping.

Old thread I know......but some advice just the same.....

Try using regular open lug nuts and see what happens.

It could be that your stud is bottoming out in the lug nut before it is tight, and this is letting them sheer off like they are because the clamping force isn't sufficient.

And on the side loading....use what's called counter force. Basically, if you are using a ratchet.....it will side load the stud....so, to counteract that, push the ratchet head on the stud towards the handle with your other hand as you turn.

I've read somewhere of 90 to 97 Ford Ranger parts involved.

Yes, the locking hubs are mile marker 428's for a ford ranger...the half shafts are custom made for warn/mile marker and there are no vehicles to cross reference...You have to purchase them from mm/warn. The rotors are from a wranger that the center hole is then machined out bigger for the kit. I do not know what studs need to be used other than ordering some from MM/warn. MM told me that they did not have a vehicle to cross reference for the studs, however the OP said something about an older ford....Just trying to find out what they are from so I can change out my bad one.

Order 1 from milemarker, then take it to NAPA to figure out what you need.....or take out one of the good ones you have now.

You can use stud diameter & length, thread pitch, knurl diameter & length to find one that works.

That works, I'll just press one of my good ones out and take it over there for them to match...I didn't realize they would take the time to match them up. Nowadays, parts stores generally aren't all that helpful unless you give them a vehicle to lookup or a part number lol.
