I swapped in a high perf Gen 1 355 with a TH350. I didn't add any stiffeners or anything. Put 3" of lift and 31's. I don't do any serious off road wheelin, just winter driving so its worked great. Novak has lots of info. Read it thouroughly for all your options. They also have lots of part for this very swap. I bought my parts from them and they have good tech support also, so if you run accross some questions, they are happy to help out. One thing I ran into that was not metioned anywhere was, even with 3" of lift, the control arms kept hitting the header flange when going over bumps. I replaced the front springs with 75 to 79 F150 springs and solved the problem. Another guy named JBSjunk I think did a build thread on GreatLakes 4x4. Check it out.

No problem. My build here is in my sig but it's nowhere near what this is going to be. LS is the engine of the future.

Yea, it sounds like its going to be a beast. 8" of lift and some dana axles, but as far as the baice engine swap goes, should be similar to ours. I didn't see that it is an LS motor. The more I read and learn about the LS, the more I want one in my 66.

Why does he have to be running 54's some ridiculous tire size just cause he is wanting 8 inches of lift. I have 9 inches of lift on 35's... I just dont understand why people on here hate so much of the thought of some one lifting over 4-6 inches. The COG is no worst on 8 inches than a jk on 37s lifted 6.5 inches. I honestly think a xj or mj is a lot more stable than the jk. I am talking from experience.......

BTW sorry to side rail OP, I just thought I would put in my unwanted 2 cents...

I dont have much to say about a V8 swap but I can tell you what I have heard is that they are a major PIA to keep cool in the xj/mj engine bay. You really need to budget for a top of the line cooling system running in tip top shape.

I've heard of big lifts in Florida where they run the swamps with narrow tires.

The small block in mine is happy.

That's how we roll down here. There's not much to flex out on, so high travel suspensions are not ideal. Most lift high because of the deep water. There are some trails here in South Florida where the water gets 6' in some places.
