Default Help, Trans Cooler: ford explorer

I'm going to install a 94 explorer cooler on the 2000xj. It looks similar to the B&M kit. I need just a little help and guidance with this. When I took the cooler off the explorer, it was mounted with the inlet and outlet pointing down. Would it be ok to mount it the same way in the cherokee? All the cherokee threads I've seen mount it vertically, with the inlet at the bottom and the outlet at the top (which is how I think B&M instructs how to mount their kit.) I've also seen people mount the explorer coolers with the inlet outlet pointing up. Now I'm not sure which way to go with this. Some help and experience would be great!

Sideways how? Horizontal, like parallel with radiator? Or vertical?

Tubes on top and bottom ran lines through drivers side by headlamp, had to massage the opening a bit

After much research I mounted mine sideways in front of the mechanical fan. Left the radiator cooler in series with it and pushed the fluid from the bottom up.

That's most likely how I'll install mine as well. I'm just curious why ford had it the way they do, and jeepers decide to flip it and do it the way mentioned above.

I put mine in this way. Works great and uses one of the bolts that is already in place.

I don't think it reall matters how the fittings are orented (pointing down, up, or to the side). I have my cooler (B&M 70264) mounted with the fittings pointed up (one of the two ways B&M reccomends, the other being with fittings to the side with the "out" line on top), but I've seen people mount them with the fittings down as well with no issues (as you saw on the Explorer some vheicles come from the factory with the fittings pointed down).

FYI. When mounting coolers they should not touch the condenser or radiator. There needs to be an air gap there.
