Just did mine it was pretty easy just pulled the board off and glued the fabric used 2 cans of 3m super 77. I bought a felt material fabric it's like a grey and black combination at Walmart for $3 a yard. It looks nice with my grey and black interior. Use a broom to sweep off the old glue makes things easier.

Looks great, I'm definitely doing that when my current one drops.
Has anyone added a layer of insulation of some sort, between the board and the metal?
I was wondering if that might help keep the interior cooler, and what kind of insulating material could be used that was thin enough.
I added some of that shiny mylar looking stuff you can use to insulate a water heater. Home Depot has it in a smaller roll about a foot or so wide. I just filled between the beams, I was trying to not be to thick and effect the headliner going back in. I used Dap Weldwood contact adhesive, it is high temp rated. 3 years and its still up. Cooler than before, probably not much difference actually. It is still warm to touch through headliner. But hey I am in Oregon, anything over 75* is too hot .
Has anyone removed headliner and sprayed a sound insulation material first?
or a bed-liner material and ditched the headliner altogether?
I'm planning to ditch the floor carpet for bed-liner!

I just used some black headliner material from the fabric store and 3M 77 spray adhesive. Remove the saggy material slowly, so you don't damage the layer beneath. The foam covered layer ripped in a few places on mine, so I just peeled it off instead of scraping it like most people do. It left a super uneven mess of fiberglass underneath. Even with the padded headliner material, my finish is pretty bumpy.
That sucks dude. I had some sections start to tear but luckily was able to tack down w loc tight spray glue. It's been nearly three plus years since I glued it and it has barely come sagged in one maybe two spots very small though. The humidity usually is the culprit 'cause it will typically stay taked after pressing it back up.
I replaced the headliner in our '00 Cherokee. I used the headliner fabric from a specialty fabric/upholstery store (local one) that was a close match to our grey tweed interior. The spray adhesive I used was "Camie 393." It is labeled Headliner, Trim and Laminating Adhesive. "Formulated to bond substrates that require either high-bond strength or need elevated temperature resistance, Camie 393 is commonly used on vehicle headliner. Water resistant, this adhesive can bond materials in 10 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on atmospheric conditions." I had never tackled that sort of job before, it turned out well. The key is to work only in 3-4 foot sections. Otherwise, the adhesive dries out before you can smooth the fabric out. Don't be afraid to use a lot of spray, especially with the headliner fabric. It is somewhat heavy and you need the adhesive to hold.

make sure to get a thickish material and use the good 3m adhesive. I used the permitex from Napa and the glue bled through. Still looks cool and was well worth the time and effort.
