Default Headliner

Okay so I have the All too common saggy headliner and I'm wondering what some people have done to solve this issue .. I was thinking of pulling the fabric off the headliner and spraying it down with some sort of paint or anything with a rough texture .. Will it work for me to paint the cardboard ? Any ideas are appreciated .. I've been stalking this forum for a while and I have an itch to modify something on my otherwise stock cherokee

It is your opportunity to get creative! Many different fabrics will work.

This is what I did to mine...

3m super 77 spray adhesive. Id recommend wearing some disposable gloves cus it gets a bit messy and hard to clean off. Home de Pot has it for like $8 a can and one can will do.

I went to JoAnn Fabric and picked up some actual headliner material. It was supposed to be $15 per yard. I asked the old lady at the cutting station for three yards, but the roll only had four yards left on it, so she just gave me all of it and entered some sort of "end of roll" discount on the order ticket. I took it up front and tried to use a coupon to take $5 off, but the girl said, "You can't use that coupon if it's less than $10."

I said, "Less than $10?"

She said, "Yeah, your total is $5.36."

Out in the Jeep I stared at that receipt trying to figure out what the hell happened and couldn't make any sense of it.

Be sure and get the adhesive at Home Depot and NOT at a fabric store. The cans they sell in the fabric stores are smaller and more expensive.

I took mine to an Upholstery Shop and they did the complete job with the factory material/color for just over a $100 bill, excellent job. I later took it back to have the black vinyl that runs around the side of the seat had split, they replaced it for $48.50.

Then had them remove the seats and professionally clean everything that was about 2 mo. after I bought it, never been that clean since lol.

Be sure to scrape all the old loose foam off or it will sag again in no time.

I scrubbed all the nasty old foam off with a nylon bristled brush and sprayed the board with about five good coats of black duplicolor bed armor, haha

I like the stitching, the clamshell visors are tricky with that thicker material. I used hot glue and tucked the edges inside of visor. Now it's coming apart, will have to use a real adhesive.
Material is textured vinyl, imitation carbon fiber. Heavy compared to headliner cloth and does not 'breath'. I am concerned about condensation due to it acting like a vapor barrier.

The visors were nice and simple to work with.

I just used a cheap roll of headliner fabric from Jo Annes

BUT!!!!!!!!!! YOU MUST USE Locktite spray adheasive!!!! much better than anything I've ever used before, sold at said fabric store. I'm not tryin to advertise but I've used "headliner" brands and some others that ended up sagging days later. the Locktite really is the best and will hold fast and forever!!!

Sorry in advance for the product push

Desert conditions in summer, headliner does not get hot, inside cools easily. It adds insulation actually, not your typical vinyl but made especially for headliners, has a backing on it also.
Fabric headliners get ripped or torn in my rig, and will let more heat through from the roof.
Yes the visors are easy with cloth.

Resined the board to strengthen it a bit then rolled on some Herculiner.
